December 31, 2012 Words from 'Words of Ribbon'

Today is the last day in 2012. It's also my Mom's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom! It's raining in the BVI right now and I am happy for the showers. My plants get a renewal and that heavenly sustenance that will help them to grow and produce more.

Resolutions are not my thing and I don't plan on making any. I think we should aim to be our best every day of the year. We know that we need to set budgets and eat more healthy food. We know we need some form of exercise. First, we need to accept out situations as what they are and then aim to do better.

So if there is any resolution, it should be one to accept that a problem is present and seek ways to solve it - regardless of how painful it is. I plan to continue my strict budgeting, picky eating, walking, gardening, blogging, writing, going to church and other activities. I am comfortable with that. When it comes to work, I will continue to function in the post that I am in until I secure something else that I prefer. It is what it is - I have to just keep doing what I am supposed to and continue looking for what I want.

Life is not complicated.....we complicate it.

Live....Love....Do What You are Supposed to!

All the best for 2013!

Finally Seeing "A Series of Unfortunate Events"

After playing the internet game, "A Series of Unfortunate Events", I was today finally able to see the movie. Unfortunately, I did not see the beginning but from the time I saw the characters on TV, I knew it was the movie. Somehow, I enjoy these types of fantasy movies. Maybe it was the books that I was exposed to growing up.

I read a lot of fairy tales, the Chronicles of Narnia and a lot of Nancy Drew. I just loved to read (and now I 'claim' to be a writer). Somehow these stories and movies with the unique characters have made some impact on me. I feel that I can do anything I put my mind to. Thank God, today I stand where I am comfortable in my own skin.

We all need to have a little imagination and some optimism. I think that is why the Bible was put together so that we can have hope in God. The fairy tales, which some people frown on for different reasons, also present some semblance of hope. Be wise in what you do and always seek divine guidance.

So for 2013, if you want to sing, get lessons and sing. If you want to write, get a pen and start. Just start and stay committed to what you want to do and achieve.

Season's Greetings!!!!

Have a blessed day today!
Be sweet in everything you say
Even if you don't get your way
Be sure to watch and pray!
So in your work and play
whether your hair is black or gray
and no matter in what direction you sway
Remember God when you start your day!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Eve Blog Post

Children have the greatest imaginations. My daughter has me playing  with dollies from time to time and I enjoy doing it with her. She chats a lot and she's a cool little six year old. My son loves trucks - he's draws them, he pretends that he is one and anything in his hand becomes a truck. he's a happy eight year old.

They are both pretty contented with themselves, other than when they start to fight with each other. However, they say that's a part of growing up. I never experienced the closeness with my siblings growing up - actually until I was already 16 - so it's all new to me still.

As it relates to Christmas, I'm not all about the shopping and hopping and popping. For me, it's about giving or sharing what you can afford. I made two gestures this year and would like to do more and not just at this time.

I wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday season and I hope that 2013 is filled with inspiration, improvement and excellence.

POEM: All the best

As I wish for you all the best
I pray that you can withstand our daily tests
for everyday is not a smooth run
and somedays, the race isn't won
but we have to persevere
and sometimes take a dare
to be different
cause even if it's the present
or you're running for the future
make time for structure
so you'll have a balanced life
and you'll enjoy the time
that you spend on this earth
cause after your birth
there's no guarantee on your last day
so live your life in the best way
and do the right things
dance, relax and sing
and most of all pray
so that whether your hair is gray
white or black
you''ll never be taken aback
instead you'll be ready
to face whatever comes

Taking Corrections

Today, people do not like to be corrected by others. It is sad because we all need to be pulled up when we err. I find that it's even worse with our young people. Many of them do not respect authority in school or in church, and then when they enter the job market, we can only hope that they will do better.

I think it's sad that as a society, we are not willing or are afraid to correct each other when we falter. I make mistakes and sometimes it is the youngest or simplest person that corrects me. I may be taken off-guard, sometimes annoyed or even embarrassed but this does not stop me.

I am seeing cases where young people are out of control and I can only pray that my children will not go down that path. I've already told them that I am serious and I will not reward unacceptable behavior. We have to draw the line somewhere. I also expect the adults around me to give my children encouraging words. I do the same when I see other children, even if I don't know them.

If we all take a blind eye to the wrongs of the world, then we are just as bad as the people committing the crimes. Someone has to take a stand. Now, you will get some rude reactions from the people in general when you try to show them the right way; but this is all part of growing up. You will receive opposition. Everyone will not agree with your decisions.

However, you would have done the right thing. Of course, your approach has to be one that makes the listener want to adhere to what you say. Bombarding people is not the way to go, unless the situation calls for it. In many cases, gentle reminders can work. We have to be careful that we are not 'bad' messengers where our behavior strangles the message.

If you see me going wrong, let me know please and this is the same for my children. I will always try to encourage my people and let's see how we can all help each other improve.

It's Good to Give

Today I spent my day with Miss Teen Diva, Shaemore Smith, and pageant founder, Camille Merry asking shoppers at Rite Way's Pasea supermarket in Tortola to give little tokens to bless someone who suffers from mental health issues. The support was overwelming and I am very happy.

I have been so blessed by others inmy lifetime and I think that today is a true testimony to the goodness of God. I truly want to thank my friends, visitors and everyone who gave a little token today. The goodies will be dropped off on Monday to the Community Mental Health Centre who will share with the persons they work with.

Even in the wake of the crazed shooting in CT, I feel that the shooter had some issues that were unresolved that caused him to snap. We have to be our brother's keeper and watch out for one another. Who can you help this holiday season - even if it's to prune a tree, wash a car or mop a floor - see who you can give to!

Blessings!!!

Sharing for this Christmas

Christmas is such a weird time of the year. It becomes too commercialized for me at times but the real reason is to celebrate how great our God is and to commemorate Christ's birth here on earth.

There are so many events: Christmas tree lighting, school concerts, church concerts, parties etc. I honestly prefer to just stay in my corner and relax myself. I guess I've never been one for the whole Christmas thing and from long, I've had my own sense of how things should run.

I don't have time or money to fall prey to the one-sided meaning of this season. I want to be able to give more - even it's more time to a cause. I'm spending my Saturday morning at Rite Way in Pasea in Tortola to do a grocery drive for persons who suffer from Mental Health issues. This is what the season should be about. Sharing with someone and passing it forward. I have to aim to do better and do more for others - not just those who always want something from me - but those who really need me.

So for this season and going forward, I want to see what service I can apply myself too. Think about it and let me know if I'm making sense.

Let 2013 Be a Year for the Community

People blame a lot of things on a leap year. It's probably because the year is in multiples of four and then February gets 29 days. I think things just happen. Unfortunately, coincidences are events that happen closely together.

It is strange that we have lost a few men - young and old over the past few weeks. Wives are without husbands and children are without dads. However, it takes us back to being a community that sticks together. When something tragic happens in a small country or locale, it affects the entire populace. We all cry because we know someone who was affected.

As 2012 comes to a close and as we enter 2012, let us be more community minded and really focus on sticking together. We have to be our brother's keeper and this is something that I will not stop reiterating. Let us stand together in unity and continue to pray and strengthen each other.

Let 2013 be the year for unity and community spirit.

POEM: Not On Our Own

We are all sinners
and while we all want to winners
some days it's dimmer
than others
but we have to persevere
and prepare
for the good and the bad
which can come at any moment
but regardless of the outcome
we can't let ourselves become
unfaithful
or ungrateful to God
because he always has our back
and gives us the things we lack
so be strong
cause we might work hard for long
but God won't let us down
or leave us alone
and he won't leave us to fight on our own
so keep the faith
and be patient while you wait
because everyone' journey is different
and each man needs to be content
cause God is omnipotent
and his love has no measurement
it's the same for me
and the same for you
and it's all true

My Social Media Behavior

I have a certain social media pattern of behavior. I post jokes, poems and inspirational tidbits. I am not about bawling about my job or my family there.

I like sharing cute pics, new items and other social events that are going on. Afterall, it is 'social' media even though it can be annoying and can cause havoc at times. Some people share inappropriate posts and curse a lot.

I try not to do that because everyone's on Facebook and Twitter. I don't really delete anyone. Even the scam artist who listed himself as a UVI alumni when he wasn't. Then he sent out these horrible scam letters to me and others stating that he worked in a bank and knew of bank accounts in my 'family' member's name. RIGHT! I have not deleted him either.

I want to know that I am an inspiration to others. I feel that my story may help someone in their quest so I am happy to share.

Does Your Career Need a Wake-up Call?

career, call, wake-up
Does Your Career Need a Wake-up Call?

It's a good question, isn't it!

Where do you stand today?
Are you challenged on your job?
Will you be missed if you leave today?
What have you come up with that shows your initiative and leadership?
Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?

We have to ask ourselves these questions and position ourselves to move to the next level. Whether it's acting in a post or attending training, we have to find ways to get to the next level.

Don't ever be one of those people who sit there watching new people coming into the organization and grumble about the person's qualifications or salary. Instead, see what you can do to get a promotion or for you to be ready for the next level..

It's in your hands. Have you been doing research on your own that can help your organization or help you to be more efficient? Find it and find out how you can be a better employee.

Don't let yourself be passed over!

December is Here!

Welcome to December. It's the month where people go crazy shopping for the holidays. Most people are in financial ruin after this season because they don't want to look 'less' than anyone else and they want to give a gift to everyone.

People forget about frugality in December and spend like crazy. Some do look for worthwhile causes or special gifts that another person will appreciate. There are many unfortunately who just go shopping crazy just because they can.

I encourage you to give to your loved ones but if you can't afford it, then be honest with yourself. Maybe spending time might be more important. You can also look for one person in the neighborhood that you can share love with. You can seek out a homeless person and drop a meal for them. It can also be a senior as well. Just find one worthwhile cause this season and bless someone.

Get SMART Today!

As 2012 comes to a close, what have you done to make it a fulfilling year for yourself? What have you accomplished? Have you been able to achieve any of your goals? Or have you been afraid to take risks?

I guess I am very spontaneous because I was able to find new 'adventures' that can take me closer to one of my goals. Financially it is still a struggle but I can't give up. I just have to work with what I have.

Even before 2012 closes out, set some SMART goals to get rolling ahead for 2013. Try to save more money but still have fun along the way. Is there something you want to accomplish like an Associates Degree or to join a non-profit organization? Well, do it! Just don't overdo and take it in strides.

Are you tired because you can't say 'no'? Well this is your time to practice...no, No, NO! Don't let people use you. You should help others yes; but you have to be considerate of yourself.

Whatever your plans are for 2013, don't wait until then to start. Start from this moment, this today.

Great R&B of 2002: Still Ghetto by Jaheim

Great R&B of 2002: "Still Ghetto" by Jaheim
Jaheim released his sophomore album Still Ghetto in 2002 with songs like "Put That Woman First" and "Fabulous" as a follow-up to the album Ghetto Love.

Born in 1976, Jaheim Hoagland has earned his place in music history. R&B fans know this singer as Jaheim and have enjoyed his music since his debut album in 2001. Jaheim is the grandson of Vic Hoagland who sang with the Drifters. His family's musical background no doubt would have influenced his choice to pursue a career in music. Jahiem released Ghetto Love in 2001 featuring the hits that got him noticed, "Could It Be" and "Just In Case." Still Ghetto was released after in 2002.

R&B Fans Love "Still Ghetto"
While several years have passed since the release of Still Ghetto, songs from this album still keep the ladies singing along. Still Ghetto spoke of the thoughts everyday people were thinking and of the issues people were facing in relationships. The artist may have titled the album Still Ghetto but it was real and relevant to anyone who listened.

The Songs on "Still Ghetto"
Still Ghetto featured sixteen songs including the "Intro" featuring Duganz and the "Interlude". The songs that everyone recognizes are "Put That Woman First" and "Fabulous" as these songs were played on the radio and Jaheim released music videos for them. Other notable songs on this album include "Diamond In Da Ruff," "Tight Jeans," "Special Day" and "Beauty and a Thug" featuring Mary J. Blige.
  • The R&B Hit "Put That Woman First": "Silly me, silly me baby, I forgot to be your lover" are part of the lyrics of "Put That Woman First." This song has elements of William Bell's "I Forgot To Be Your Lover" and it speaks of a man who put basketball games, other women, his jewelry and his friends in front of his girlfriend. Women loved this song because many felt what Jaheim was expressing in the lyrics.
  • Jaheim's "Diamond In Da Ruff": This song speaks about a relationship that could be considered a 'diamond in the rough' where Jaheim expresses how he lost the 'diamond' and continued to reminisce about her. The music for this song was inspired by the Fantastic Four's "My Love Won't Stop At Nothing" but has a more upbeat and modern flavor.
  • "Tight Jeans" is an Interesting Song: "Tight Jeans" is a song with a simple melody and catchy hook. However, the lyrics talk about a man and woman who were 'just friends' but his feelings grew stronger than just friendship. Part of the lyrics read "you can't be coming round me in tight jeans.. I think you really trust me too much."
Jaheim Has Released More Albums
Since the release of Ghetto Love and Still Ghetto, according to the artist's page, Jaheim has released Classic Jaheim Vol 1 (2004) and Ghetto Classics (2006). More recently Jaheim released The Makings of a Man (2007) and Another Round (2010). Jaheim's released his second R&B album Still Ghetto in 2002.

Still Ghetto featured the hits "Put That Woman First" and "Fabulous" as well as other good songs. Since this album, Jaheim has continued his musical journey releasing several albums and is surely an R&B singer to keep listening to.

POEM: Purpose

I am
your daughter
I am
your son
Yet I am the one
who stands alone
I do not fear
I do not stop
even though my heart
has got a grey spot
I need to rise
I need to smile
I need to walk a mile
in pilgrim style
My ears are tuned
My soul is hurt
but I can't stop
because
while I am alone
I still have a purpose
to fulfill

Our Various Journeys

The last few week were interesting. The BVI saw deaths of several well-known men including the Superintendent of Prisons. I do offer my condolences to the families that are mourning at this time. I know it can be tough especially if the death was unforseen.

We also saw happy moments like the crowning of Miss Shaemore Smith as the 2012 Miss Teen Diva and the successful saxophone performances by Kamau Georges and Dalan Vanterpool. I like to know that there are good news and that positive things are happening for our people.

I love to see progress and we all have to be responsible for our movement forward. Everyone has their strongpoint and we have to know how best to use our talents to help ourselves and others. Don't let anyone discourage you. Instead focus on what you want and keep aiming higher.

This Time of the Year.....holidays

This is a happy time of the year for many people. The holiday spirit has everyone hopping and shopping. I can keeping it low key this year as I have been doing for a while. Things are tight and I have a lot to do with little. I am taking it in strides and going forward with a grateful heart, loving spirit and joy.

I want to encourage everyone to be financially wise during this time. Give your time if you cannot give money. See who you can help in your community. If you are in a position to give, then give smart gifts that people will appreciate. If you know you cannot afford to give, then don't. You are not obligated to do so. People have to be able to understand. If they can't, then you need to give them some more love and maybe even a little space.

If you're a grinch and can't be bothered, then don't be. Just live your life as you see fit. However, if you can, do give your time to worthy cause this season. Some needy person will appreciate the gesture.

Let's Use Our Good Energy for Improvement

Every time I open a news site, I just shake my head. There's a lot of foolishness going on and there seems to be no end to it. I may call it stupidness but there are others who will celebrate certain behaviors. Unfortunately, I am always a fire box because I hate to see nonsense happening.

I limited my involvement in several activities because I can't make it to every activity. I have to be effective in the one that is dearest to my heart. People don't always understand this but they just have to go with the flow.

I am seeing a trend that I do not like. There's an aura of procrastination, disorganization and laziness going around and I don't want it to rub off on me at all. I am sticking with the few people in my circle who make positive things happen. We can function off each other's good energy.

I also find that people are not stepping up their game and expressing themselves. If we all decide not to share our feelings about a particular problem, then how will it get solved? We don't have to be rude or disrespectful, but we have to let each other know that improvement is needed. It is also good to share ideas on how things can be improved. We can't just let the same old nonsense repeat itself.

Keep you head on and do what you know is right.

Loyalty or Fear

Some people want loyalty from you. Others want you to fear them. You have to make that choice. What would you prefer to do - fear or be loyal? I guess I can be either depending on the situation or people involved. On the job, I am loyal - but to myself, my ethics and ideals first. I am loyal to my organization as well, once it stands in line with these values. When I see that it may be shifting in another direction that I am uncomfortable with, and this may not mean that there are illegal or unethical behaviors, I know it's my time to move forward.

At some point, we have to stand up and out against things that we are not pleased with. I see too much foolishness going on but I can't try to be the savior for every cause. However, where I can make an impact, I have to. These are the times when people want to ostracize you for speaking out but you have to know how the finesse your actions. Don't be a rabble-rouser. Be a problem solver.

Be loyal but know who and what you are loyal to. We all will have fear but we cannot let it hold us back from growing and taking steps to improve ourselves. I speak from experience. I look at where I stand today and people may say that I am not loyal to any cause or organization. I just know when it's time to move forward. I don't leave relationships - business or extra-curricular - in an unpleasant state. I just have to take myself to another level. You want me to be loyal to you, but really you just need me to fulfill my duties.

You may find that I am harsh these days but we all have to make a decision during our lifetime to stop being afraid and be loyal to our God, ourselves and our families.

POEM: Not Surprised

I'm not surprised
when people tell me lies
try to deceive me
or rob me like I'm blind

I know it's not kind
for me to feel this way
but no matter how you say it
people always have their evil streak

I'm trying to still be compassionate
and to keep my head above water
but this daughter
is not too pleased with the behavior

cause wrong is still wrong
and we should not condone it
it may seem like a bitter pill
but we must stand for what's upright

I can't let the bad hold me back
or stop me from living
or ever stop me from giving
cause this is what drives humanity

we got to love our brother
and respect the event the simplest man
because for that we can do
we need each other to survive

Prayer for November 9, 2012

O Most Holy God,

We thank you for your mercies, for your gifts and for you love. As we face another day today, we know that there are many who are hurting, who are crying and who are in pain. Father, bless them and comfort them. Only your love can sustain us and keep us going. While we try to do things on our own, it is you who are God and you are the Holy One who guides us through the good and the bad. As the Devil tempts us and tries to derail us, Lord help us and keep us on the good path. Lord, bless all the leaders of the world that they may make the best decisions for the people they lead. Give us wisdom and understanding Lord that even if we don't agree with a leader or a brother, that we may become problem solvers. Thank you for your continued blessings.

AMEN

POEM: My Road

I've been on the road
dragging along
playing
one sad song
after the other
I no longer know
my brother
and I don't ask
for directions
and I can't take
correction
Although
my reflection
is far off
it's not too far
from reality
cause even when
reality bites
just the idea of
new sites
intensify my
thoughts
and evaporate
the froth
cause I'm like
a cool cup
of coconut water
I awaken
I uplift
and I jolt you
but never be
intimidated
cause my style is not dated
it's just
the way
I do my thing

POEM: My Temporary Pains

Poetry

My heart is weak
my head is hurting
but there's no way
I'll be deserting
my cause
my all
my rise
my fall
it's destiny
a serious reality
that we have to be strong
and even when we walk along
this crooked and rocky road
we have to stay focused
and this is regardless
of the circumstances
let's keep our feet dancing
and our voices loud
stand out in the crowd
with positivity
because that's what
the world needs
so even as my
head and heart hurt
it's for what
life is worth
our time
our prayers
and
patience
throughout the years

The Little Things

Sometimes you never want to miss a moment to jump. Today was an off day where nothing seemed to go as planned but it worked itself out. Key people weren't able to help as planned. Utensils were missing from food. To top it off, a bird pooped on my hair.

However, it all worked itself out perfectly. The sequence of events all followed the way they were supposed to and for that I give God thanks. Challenges are  always there to strengthen us. I know it's been a rough week for many but we'll make it.

Sometimes little things get us frustrated but like the adjective used, the things are just "little". It makes no sense to get a heart attack over things that you can fix immediately. Find a back-up plan and move forward. Even if you don't have a contingency in place, think on your feet and do what you have to.

Out Sick

I'm not usually a sickly person. However, when that scratchy throat starts, I know it's time to take a break and rest. I have had to battle with tonsils and the loss of my voice. I really no longer want to go down that road and must resort to applying for a sick day.

I find that when I'm sick, the air conditioning makes it worse. Then you never know when you are really contagious...going in the office and touching things...making everyone else sick. I want to be the best employee but going to the office with a cold does not really help. I'm hoping that the cold would subside so that I can head back in tomorrow.

I have lots to do but of course, health comes first. I do not have medication - just using natural remedies of lemon grass, ginger and garlic and so far the symptoms are subsiding. I can still feel a little tickle in my throat but I'm hoping that tomorrow I can be bright and fresh for work. I've got lots to do and want to get them done in a timely manner.

Being sick is a natural thing - everyone goes through it. The key thing is to launch an attack on the illness from early with whatever remedy you choose.

Be good, be vigilant and take care of yourself!

Prayer for October 21, 2012

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for another beautiful day where we can stand together as your people praising your name. Dear God, you have been bountiful with your blessings upon us - our food, shelter, our families - and for these things we are truly grateful. Help us to stayed renewed in your faith and let us grow more in your care. Help us to be kind to each other and be understanding of each other's talents as well as faults. Build and bind in us in the spirit of unity, Lord so that we can further your work. Help us in your name I pray.

Speaking My Truth

I watched Matt Cutts on Ted.com this morning and I remembered when I got serious about my blog. I projected and said that I would write in my blog daily. I did and then I've cut it down to every other day depending on what's going on.

I guess I have always been someone who would go with the flow so I set an aim and go for it. My boss can tell you - if I plan an event, I write a report immediately. It's really just my style. I think that things should be done professionally and in a timely manner.

I can't deal with dragging foot people - they kill my spirit. Lazy people drive me nuts. If this was a script for an interview, I think I would say I want to work in an organization where people value quality, are not about lip service and who push to get better every time.

I'll go back to my first paragraph to say that I will cut back on the chocolate/cake for the next 30 days. It will also save me money. For the next 30 days, I'll eat chocolate/cake once every 7 days. I have to do baby steps. Cold turkey on that would be a little tough especially when it's that time of the month.

We all can improve ourselves. I think unfortunately most people are just stuck and I don't want to be stuck. I want to continue to grow. I am looking for forward movement. I will accept what God sends my way. I can not afford to be the norm - I have to stand up, stand out and be progressive.

Speaking my truth.

Don't Let Fear Hold You Back

Fear is something that is all around us. I am afraid of many things just like everyone else. When it comes to my writing and professional expperience, I have a level of confidence. When I entered the SOL recipe competition and my recipe was short listed, I was afraid of critique and judging. I got over it and had fun. I was also able to gather more information that can help me on my job.

Fear can hold you back. When it comes to taking steps to improve myself, I may be a bit more bold than some around. I wanted a home and I have it. I wanted to switch jobs because I wanted to get more into my field and I did. I am looking at other opportunities and I just move forward. I know that some things will not come my way but at least I try.

I have negatives about me but I push forward and take initiative. Even with this blog, this is my soul poured out to the world. I sometimes have to think twice about what I post but I try to keep it to general subjects. My aim is to inspire people. There is so much that we can do for ourselves but we let fear get in the way. I tell my son that I have to push him to succeed today before someone pushes him around in the future. I show my children that it is hard but we have to launch ourselves foward. Take part in activities and see how far you can go. Try something new.

Fear - don't let it hold you back. Take courage and see how far you can go.

Changing the Negatives

Change
We have a lot in common with each other, especially the negative. We spend a lot of time hating one another and causing confusion. We whisper behind each other's backs and we make time to set traps or make simple issues into big problems. If all that negative energy was used for good, we could really make big things happen.

We all really need to rise above and move forward from the petty nonsense. It gets us nowhere and in most cases, we look like total idiots. We can only hope for one positive example to set a tone of positivity that others will follow.

It starts with me. I can't wait for someone else to make a move. It's the same thing with you because while you are waiting for me, I may be getting worse not better. We have to be courageous and confident. In a lot of cases, we want to do right and need to do right but we are reluctant.

Of course, you have to consider your approach. I have already realized that on jobs or in churches, people get very intimidated quickly. We are thin-skinned and do not like change. However, change is necessary for progress to happen. It's just that we want to see good results from everything we do.

My back is wide but I do get upset but I do what needs to be done. Let's start this week positively and make strides that will improve our lives and the lives of those around us.

I'm a Blogger

I was happy when I made 25 some years ago. I'm even happier now making 25,000 page views on this blog. It has been a long time coming but I believe in taking strides. I have grown so much as a writer that I think I am addicted to writing.

I have evolved from a party girl to a mommy with a little garden. I am now an active poet that for sure has over 200 pieces. Will I publish a book? I'm not sure and am not bothered to rush. I just love the me that I am. I enjoy singing (off-key) and I enjoy my music. I can play music all day and be happy. I dance (out of step) and I could care less.

I'm just doing my thing and I encourage you to do the same too. I feel confident with my experience and my life. For the job part, I need my job to pay my bills. I do my best as I ought to. There's no perfect job or perfect career. If I could write all day and earn enough to cover my expenses, I so would not have a full time job. I guess as I build my writer's resume, one day I could be making enough to live off of.

However, even if that day does not come, I won't stop. It's a passion, not a job. My job can't give me this satisfaction. It's my niche and where I funnel my energy.

I'm a blogger.

Poetic Testimony

Do you hear me
my God does
and he never ignores me
he's my strength
and my shield
he takes my blows
and soothes my spirit
I want to stay
close to him
for all my days
o  yeah
while you may ignore me
God's not going to leave me
no way
and he won't leave you either
so for those
who are in need of a friend
Check God!
he won't leave you alone

POEM: If I was Crazy

If I was crazy
I would be sane
at the same time
cause it's all about your
mental state of mind
and once you're not in a bind
you'll be fine
never to worry about
what comes out of your mouth
so while others pout
I'll be free
and won't need to flee
from myself
or
lock myself up in a shelf
cause I'm already mad
so I don't care how bad
you think I am
at least I don't scam
or steal
or feel
like I'm so good
when I'm not
I'm neither the kettle or pot
just a plain old
regular
insane person
who could care less
I'm just me
and that's all

O Snap!

I see why many people snap. You are pressured to at home, on the job and even on the highway. People poke at you and pressure you. Some even threaten you. I don't like it but snapping seems like it's an everyday thing now.

SNAP!

I try my best to snap with my fingers as I am going down the road playing music. Let the frustration go that way because I think if I snap like the people on Oxygen, that network would find itself to the VI to record the story.

But I'm not going to let the devil chook me and he's been busy these days - very busy. I'm going to keep my head and keep snapping my fingers as I walk down the road, playing my music!

Lots to Do

My time is funny. I have done so much things for the day and still have more to do. I'm a multitasker and my aim is to get it done. You may not agree with my techniques or tactics but that's how I roll. They say I'm good under pressure but I just do what I have to do. I find that the time we spend complaining could be used to accomplish what we need to. I complain too but I usually have a plan of action behind it. I'm about efficiency.

I do what works for me. My boss knows that and he knows that I can get things done. Can my attitude be foul at times - YES IT CAN. I'm human. I may even slip an unsavory word. I may 'suck my teeth' but I do what I have to do. If you are faced with a challenging day - block out the haters and the negative people. They can be in front of me and I still get the job done cause that's how I roll. Be encouraged and just do what you need to do.

The Everything in Me

I just realized that I am a hopeless romantic, a music fanatic and overly optimistic. Does that sound like me? It should - it's the poet in me, it's the mother in me and for sure it's the energy in me.

While I'm not the most liked or the most celebrated, I know what all I'm all about. I have a lot on my plate but I don't back down. My heart is in the right place and I'm going to go for what I want. I'm cheap and I spend on the neccessities. You'll never see me flashy or overdone. I'm simple and I plan to keep it that way.

I believe in quality and I can proudly say that the works that I have done will speak for me. I go for feats that noone has tried and will always aim to accomplish something positive. When you see me, you may think that I'm crazy but I'm just being the best me that I can be - and I am happy with that.

I love the me that I am.

Prayer for September 25, 2012

Heavenly Father,

In my movements today, let me be pleasing to you. Let my behavior show good example. Help my children to be strong and to do the right thing. Bless their school, especially their teachers who are the parents away from home. Take care of us Lord in the workplace and inspire us to be a help to one another. Help us to be our brother's keeper and give us a spirit of peace and patience. Thank you for your continued blessings.

Making Changes

I have been thinking a lot lately and it's time for some new measures. It's all good though - it's about taking opportunities and seek new ways to get ahead. Everyone else is making strides so I think I should too.

I always encourage everyone to step forward so I think it's my time. As Imo-I sang it, "It's Your Time,  get up and rise up"! Well, Father help me because I'm taking another step forward. From 2011, I've been making positive strides and I'm not giving up. I don't fear the stumbling blocks because God is with me. If it's not the right move, he will chart me on the right course.

We have to do something for ourselves today. It's not about what other people see in you or what they want in you. We are here to work, be involved in the community and make a difference. Sometimes, the difference is what you make for yourself. Others may see it positively and take a good step forward too.

Let's Do It!!!! Make a positive change in your life today!

POEM: Different Mission

I go up and down
and yet I always amazed
with the things people say
WOW
our mouths...
the sad behavior
is beyond nonsense now
cause the crooks
evade the issues
and yet
persuade the people
that they are stupid
well I think I am
smarter
than that
cause it's gone beyond wack
where the leaders are slack
and on the wrong track
so don't feed me
the Koolaid
and I don't want the
Hater-Ade
either
cause I've long
gone past that
and I'm on
a different mission
so don't try to cloud my vision
just stay
out of
my way
and you can
disregard
what I say
but I'm living
and I'm enjoying
what God has
for
me

Do your Best

Green grasshoppee

I'd like to big up all those hardworking people who put their best foot forward every time. I'd also like to shot out those who may feel underappreciated and remind them that Jesus loves them. To anyone who is going through hardship, the trial is only for a season. Better things will come.

I chose this slant for the 501st blog post because this is the reality that we have to deal with. It is hard out there. There is a lot that needs to be done. However, we can't stay there playing around and pretending like it's not. Just do what you have to do and work to your hardest every day.

It makes no sense to complain because when you complain to others, they either laugh or spread your business. Don't be foolish - just struggle through, ask for help if necessary and move on. Live within your means and 'do what you know is right' like De Apostle said.

500th Blog Post - BOOM!

I never give up on getting what I want. Writing this 500th blog post should show you that. I have come a long way, shared a lot of personal thoughts and a lot of poetry. I want my readers to know that I truly appreciate them and that I am trying to always improve the blog.

I prefer to use this forum to inspire you rather than bicker about my job or my family. Instead my hope is to keep you on your toes. Like I shared before, I pride myself as being a quick thinker and a problem solver. I encourage you to do so also. I give my children, especially my son, this advice all the time.

Blogging takes patience and discipline. I want to be a better writer and using this blog has help me to improve my craft. I am the child who was always OK in English but never the best. Going to college help me to improve and the blog has made me better.

You may have something that you are struggline with and you just have to work on it. It may be an addiction, a shortcoming or a financial difficulty, but it does not mean that you cannot move forward. You can but you just have to make things happen - but be patient. Somet things take longer than others and you have to seek the help and guidance that can launch you to your goal. Of course - you need to set a goal. I wanted 20,000 page views and I got it. I wanted to be a freelance writer and I am.

I did not seek anyone's permission. I took my energy and put it to use. What's the sense of paying for internet and not use it for something with sense - not minding people's business. What's your talent? How can you use it to make your life better? Think.....

Everything you need comes from God and with his inspiration, you can grow and improve yourself.

Thoughts on September 11, 2012

As I sit and reflect today, on my birthday, there is a lot going on. Today, we mark the date when thousands of persons lost their lives in the United States because of terroism. I was sitting by my desk enjoying my birthday and then I got a phone call that a plane it the World Trade Center. Then another plane hit the other tower and it became history. This is the type of history that no one will ever forget. It was truly a very sad moment especially when we consider the advancements that we have contrived; yet we are still so hateful. May God continue to comfort those who lost family members.

I have marked another milestone and as I reflect on my life and what I have and have not accomplished, I am OK. I think that I am a work in progress still who has never really set a life plan. I know that there are certain things that I wanted and still want; so I will reach for these things. Professionally, I am still growing and will continue to do my best. There is a lot of work that needs to be done and I want to play a more active role in making things happen in my community. However, I have to put my family first. My children are young and in need of continuously molding.

I am not a perfect parent but I impress certain values. I don't stand for foolishness and I let the children know that. I have no time for petty bickering especially when each goes out and embraces others who sometimes do not even care for them. I won't give up though.

Today someone posted on Facebook about the persons that inspire him. I liked his choices. I also said that Bob Marley and Nelson Mandela inspired me. Marley for his poetry and Mandela for his perseverence. I added that my parents and grandparents inspire me the most because they have left a postive legacy for me and my children. They are hardworking, energetic, kind, passionate, survivors and thinkers. So why should I be a bother to anyone today when they have given me so much - not the financial input but the leadership and guidance.

I have no choice but to be vigilant. I have no choice but to be hardworking. I have no choice but to think on my feet and make change. This is my legacy and as I mark another birthday, I pledge to do my best and to be the best me that I can be. If that means I have to be hard on my children when they do wrong, then that's what it is.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday greetings. Happy Birthday to all my fellow September 11 buddies.

Prayer for September 10, 2012

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your multitude of blessings. Thank you for the pastors who shepherd your flock. Help them to be grounded, Lord, and give them the strength to resist temptation. Lord, help us, your flock to stand in your promises and live for you. Bring us closer to you and give us the patience and humbleness that we need. As we trod through the road of life Lord, help us to be strong. Lord, bless us and keep us.

POEM: Wait for Your Blessings

As I take the long road
while I carry a heavy load
Lord, help me to be strong
and walk steadily along
order my steps
and give me strength
as I pass through trials
and fight off the devils
let me stay focused
and not waste time to fuss
help me to be wise
and open my eyes
so that I can see
give my ears depth
and even when my eyes have wept
let me be solid in faith
and learn to patiently wait
for your blessings

Me and My Movements

I like to see productivity and can't stand working in chaos. It just drives me nuts! I think I'm a little too methodical sometimes. I believe that if something needs to be done, it simply has to be. People are in an organization to compliment each other - not to be slaves or slave drivers. As organizations today literally have to do more with less, it is time to streamline operations so that everyone works SMART and not hard.

Even your goals should be smart:
S is for Specific - state what you exactly want
M is for Measurable - by what criteria?
A is for Attainable - you should be able to reach this goal
R is for Relevant - what change will occur when you get there
T is for Time Bound - set a time to get there

Everything in the world today is supposed to be smart - smart goals, smart phones, working smart...but yet we somehow seem to stay in that perpetual wheel of getting no where. I think I have accomplished a few little feats that I did not set goals for. I'm just always looking for opportunities. I have my writing which I never thought would have taken me this far. I have my blog, I write on a semi-professional basis for other sites and I have my poetry.

I am now taking an online course and trying to keep up with my garden and yard work. I can only hope that I can be an inspiration to my readers and encourage them to take advantage of the many opportunities available out there. Work smart, be good to people and take opportunities to learn and grow.

Keep up With Gardening

It's another beautiful September day in the Virgin Islands. We have a lot to be thankful for as the sky is bright and the seas are calm. Let us take time to smile with nature. I 'm in the middle of cooking and have had the privelege of cutting thyme, parsley and chive from my garden to put in the pot. These simple things remind me of God's love and mandate for us to take care of the earth.

I feel good when I am outside and I have been weeding and maniucring the bushes in my yard. Home ownership either calls for you to spend money or to do it yourself. Money is tight so whatever I can do for myself I do. It is also great exercise for me. I enjoy gardening so I have work to do outside today. Plus it's a good time for me to be away from the kids - even though they follow me and try to help. Bless their little hearts!

POEM: Old School Reggae

old school reggae makes me feel good
sets me in a good mood
makes me smile
for a good while
as I reminisce
on the good times
that old school feel
is enlightening
and I do enjoy it
and I shake and
do a little skant too
old school reggae
I enjoy you so

POEM: Float Like Butterfly

I'm looking for the right spot
to keep food in my pot
cause I know I've got
a lot
to do
and whether or not
you agree
I'm being the best me
and I'll be
heading up the road
not like a toad
but like a butterfly
lovely, charming
and catching your eye
and that's what
I wish you would
aim for
cause there are doors
that are opened for all
but we can not stall
and stay in limbo
take the opportunity as it's thrown
and break your coccoon
and become
a butterfly

Thoughts after Isaac & Zeek

I have been sharing poems for a few days and since Tropical Storm Isaac has sort of passed, I can write a paragraph or two. There is a lot going on around us and one of the major things that happened was the crash of Zeek Rewards. I never trusted it.

The safer ways to make money online is through writing and advertising for companies. I enjoy the writing and the pay eventually grows. I am able to learn a lot of new things as well. Writing works for me but I don't know if it can work for many. Most people want to get rich overnight. I am a slow and steady kind of girl. I just want to be satisfied and pay my bills on time.

To my readers, please pay attention to the many warnings - if it is too good to be true, it most likely IS! Live within your means and save what you can.

POEM: Alive

Beware
Be care...ful
but not full
of yourself
cause the self
is one a part
of the whole
and we
have to be wise
not sly
not shy
not a spy
but alive -
a life
that can inspire
a fire
in some
heart

POEM: My Peace

My piece is my peace
which never ceases
but instead releases
my love
my heart
and my soul
because as I go for the gold
I will stand strong and bold
and while I was told
that I was not good enough
I am tough
and I've made it through the rough
spots that came
that tried to out my flame
but in this game
I never stop
I never doubt
because I am on a route
that will take me far
and despite the scars
I'm gonna rise above the bar
and reach the pinnacle
so don't be cynical
cause this woman's peace
will never cease
and I will
persevere

POEM: Weird Poem

I try to be real, not fake
and I sometimes try to bake
cookies, not cake
but I can take
a walk by a lake
but for goodness sake
don't step on a rake
and don't run by the snake
because you'll turn into a flake
and start to shake
like a drum that quakes
You don't dare call me Jake
and don't try to wake
my spirit's insanity
cause vanity
is not in my vocabulary
and bigotry
was deleted from my dictionary
so as I play with these words
I hope I struck a nerve
or made you smile
even just for a while
cause this style
is mine
and it's surely not fake
or a flake
it's just me
in my abstract poetry

Poem: Sweet by Linette Rabsatt
