POEM: Clerical Sense

one's preferences are either rational or irrational
although turbulence is neither defined as partial nor impartial
but you see that pretense is always intentional
and if I'm on defense, it means things have gotten critical
because an offense is usually described as something 'criminal'
while lenience could be viewed as an action that is non-committal
yet our differences encourage constant rebuttal
I know that reverence does not mean that you are spiritual
and using incense could never mean you believe you are magical
same way, having a license is not only what qualifies a professional
because competence is developed from doing practicals
we know that diligence may not put you on a pedestal
and common sense is not always available and perpetual
but having excellence means that your thinking is tactical
so your intense words should be for things that are unusual
go build your patience by reading something historical
because losing your conscience is indescribably brutal
never resort to violence because things become crucial
since indifference could be a strategy for survival
and severance is always an option, but so is reprieval

POEM: Intensify

ɪɴᴛᴇɴꜱɪꜰʏ

Emotions ɪɴᴛᴇɴꜱɪꜰʏ
as I search for a sense of satisfaction
in a topsy-turvy life filled with distractions
yet my heart calls me to diversify
my intent and decisions
to become more productive and intentional
not that everything has to be transactional
or by allowing my actions to be irrational
but I can't keep investing in other's progress
when I know I should be vested in my success
through continuous learning and growth
and surrounding myself with like beings
who don't judge people by what they are seeing
but look forward to conscious and upright living

POEM: A Michael Jackson Story

He said "Billie Jean is not my lover"
but Annie was upset
No matter how he asked,
"Annie, are you ok?"
She was not having it
He said "The kid is not my son"
People always
"Wanna be starting something"
but all she said was
"Remember the time"
and he knew she was fed up
He tried to be a "Thriller"
but she only believed what
she saw in "Black and White"
He kept pleading
"I just can't stop loving you,"
"I'll be there,"
It's just "Human Nature,"
those other people
"They Don't Care About Us"
but this "Pretty Young Thing"
only wanted to "Scream"
She said look at the
"Man in the Mirror,"
you'll see a "Smooth Criminal"
"The way you make me feel"
is "Dangerous"
I want to "Rock with you"
but you better
"Leave me alone"
or there will be
"Blood on the dance floor"
You are "Bad"
because at night
"You are not alone"
I remember when
"Love never felt so good"
and when I would say
"Don't stop till you get enough"
but now I need someone
to "Heal the world"
that I live in

Poem: Guardian of My Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy

I may not be "Brandy",
but I think I am a fine girl
and despite what you think,
"Ain't no mountain high enough"
that can keep me from reaching my goals
because I've got music and I've got soul
So even though I don't say
"Come and get your love" often
that doesn't mean I don't want to "Escape"
and drink some "Pina Colada"
We have to live in this moment so
"Come a little bit closer"
because I'm happiest when I see
the bright "Mr. Blue Sky"
because the "Spirit in the Sky"
has me "Hooked on a Feeling"
It's not like "I'm not in love"
it's just that
"I fooled around and fell in love"
and "Ooh Child",
"Bring it on home to me"
So don't change your mind
and don't leave me behind
because you are the Guardian of my Galaxy

Poem: The Weeds

We often ask ourselves why
About many things
Like how birds learn to sing
Or how weeds take over a garden
Instead we need to watch
The numerous happenings
And the way nature keeps thriving
How it replenishes and accommodates
And how the circle of life is displayed
Look at how simply flora and fauna
Coexist to provide our basic needs
Even though we act more like the weeds
and take over all the spaces
Choking all other beings
If we watch the simplicity
Teamwork, survival and diligence
We can mirror the behaviors
To make the world a better place

Poem: Navigation

I want to navigate
and elevate
but not just gravitate to the next thing
I have my eyes set on a goal
and this soul
doesn't give up that easily
so don't talk to me teasingly
because you don't know what I'm feeling
or if I am healing
don't assume what people are dealing with
because you don't know where they sit
or if they've been hit
or bitten
because what comes from within
is what lies beneath
so take a seat
and rest your feet
let me take my ride
let me confide with the Most High
as I navigate
resuscitate
and elevate

Poem: An Unusual Fire

the fire in my heart
matches the eruption in my soul
and while my brain is ablaze
and I go through different phases
and see the world at different stages
it's a steady heat like coals burning
in a haze of uncertainty,
impossibility and curiosity
an uneasy velocity
and the smoke of a conspiracy theory
It's leery and you can only see the
mist wisp but it's just hot and dreary
not scary or blurry
just a different type of energy
taking the heat and literal fire
the things we aspire
the things we should use to inspire
the things that should take us higher
to a temperature we can barely endure
yet it's so pure
and we act like we're sure
but we're far from right
left or any insight
and this is not fight fire with fire time
but to remove the accerlerant
and become tolerant
vigilant and consistent to
treating each other right
and using the light not the fire
to ignite love around the world

POEM: Weird Poem

I try to be real, not fake
and I sometimes try to bake
cookies, not cake
but I can take
a walk by a lake
but for goodness sake
don't step on a rake
and don't run by the snake
because you'll turn into a flake
and start to shake
like a drum that quakes
You don't dare call me Jake
and don't try to wake
my spirit's insanity
cause vanity
is not in my vocabulary
and bigotry
was deleted from my dictionary
so as I play with these words
I hope I struck a nerve
or made you smile
even just for a while
cause this style
is mine
and it's surely not fake
or a flake
it's just me
in my abstract poetry

POEM: I have

I've seen the mighty fallen
and I've seen the fallen rise
I have travelled to the hilltops
as I asked God to open my eyes

I've roared like a mountain lion
I've risen to the mighty call
I have lived in the naked nature
I've sat in trees majestically tall

I've prayed with the downtrodden
I've given them a helping hand
I've seen the struggles of ten thousand
I walked with them on the black sand

I want to be among the mighty
I love nature's open call
I wish for peace among the nations
for us to all stand strong and tall

Monday, March 21, 2011 is World Poetry Day!

Cultivation

my reach needs an extension
to make the connection in reaction
to the love in existence
and the brilliance of a million
smiles and reactions that produce
alive passion that fashions
inside and cultivates outside
lies trembling beside and stimulates
the fireside
on the bright side
a poem compiled
with the happy tears I
cried
a walk in the
countryside
a relaxing morning ride
fashions my inside
and cultivates my outside

Blog, oh Blog - I have not Forsaken You

I know I have not written in my blog for while. I am now writing for Suite 101 and I love it because it keeps me busy. My blog in recent posts has more become the poetry generator. I will admit that several more poems have been written since the last post here on Blogger.

Poetry seems easier for me to write. I play with words and it comes. I guess it's second nature now - maybe more first. It's like my singing - I do not sing as much as I used to and I think my voice has deteriorated but the more I write - the easier it is to share my poems.

These are my thoughts tonight (while listening to some Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Marvia Providence):

spirit
alive
passion
be free
smile
unhinged
in one look
it's me
feeling
so special
being
a new me
surrounded
by nature
this love
how it captures
with joy
it enlivens
with peace
it strengthens
YES
it's indirect
and YES
it protects
never rejects
shows respect
and in fact
I know know
that this
is the
only
love
that
I need
because
it comes
from
heaven

POEM: What have I done?

What have I done to help the oppressed?
Have I ever said a good word to one who is depressed?
Do I behave like I am human when I am stressed?
Or do I act like I don't know people when i am dressed?
Up and down the road of life as each daily move brings us strife,
why can't we treat each other better?
Why should you be hungry while I get fatter?
Why should you always be first and then I am left behind for your laughter?
Will you smile in my face as your lies get more craftier?
Don't you think that you are your brother's keeper?
Don't you think that we should all be richer?
Are you focused only on material things?
Aren't you tired of dragging others people's purse strings?
Don't you think it's time to spread your wings?
Don't you know what showing love can bring?
Don't you know how a good deed can begin?
Do I need to lose for you to win?
Or can we all just forgive each other's sins?

POEM: Realizing Love

Realizing Love

What is the love we share?
It's not rare, but it's real
no thesis statement
can describe
this feeling.
It's not WHY I love you
because having a reason
can never determine
or quantify this LOVE.
It can't be HOW I love you
because no matter
the situation
thick, thin, hot, cold
weak, strong, short or long
I LOVE you.
It won't be WHEN I love you
because a date or time stamp
is insignificant
as a higher power
has taken over
our lives with LOVE.
Who is the love
that I speak about?
My LOVE is
simple, comfortable,
indescribably beautiful,
inspiring, solid and bountiful.
My love for life, charity and mankind.

Watch me do me

Watch me do me....

Yea, I like that song, well at least the chorus. I am comfortable with my outer shell and inner being so I'm glad to use what God gave me to do positive things. I prefer to be a role model. I have a friend who is both a role model and a top model and she is doing fine.

Females, especially still have many setbacks and hindrances. Even as a black female, it's hard proving yourself. Men always try to put you down and run you around.

Before this starts to sound like a poem or lyrics, I'll say that my kids have made me into a new ME. I am not be the club hopping girl anymore but I am a woman on a mission to leave a legacy for my fruits. They need nuture to grow them into positive adults who make good choices.

World Poetry Day

Today is WORLD POETRY DAY!

Celebrate with all poets today and encourage them to keep crafting their talents.

Writing poetry is easy when you let the inspiration flow. When asked to write on specific topics, you have to brainstorm and craft according to the specific issue. It is still not hard for me - once my heart is in it and I have enough time to write and re-write.

Our poetry readings are themed and some poets do not like that at all. I like the themes but encourage poets to share what they wish. They may come with something fresh and new. We never want to stifle creativity. Themes are set as a guide and a way to push the poets to keep writing.

Past themes include:
Black Love
Honoring the Elders

They are simple and a little abstract, but you may be suprised at the detailed creativity that stems from simple themes. The poets and singers who attend the readings really work hard and get the message across.

To get more of a taste, you'll have to attend one of our 'open mic' sessions held every thrid Saturday of the month. Keep checking this blog for updates.

I am an aspiring writer so stay tuned for more articles.
