Stay on Track for Your Goals

It's not very often that we are able to gain success without there being some trials. Onlookers may think that it's been an easy road when you've struggled to get to where you are now. It's important in the journey not to get sidetracked by negative people. We all have those type of people around us who will dissuade us or make us feel small.

While you want to take constructive criticism, you do not have to subject yourself to hateful discourse. Once you have set your goal, you do your best to get to it. You control your destiny. You will need help along the way and you will also need prayer. You will have to be patient, understanding and diligent and you do have what it takes.

You have to find ways to block the 'hater' from your mind. Shut them out literally and physically. Absent yourself from their presence. Stay focused on your tasks and go forward with persistence and perseverance.

POEM: Every Day

green, good luck, grasshopperEvery day is a day to give
Every day is a moment
to celebrate the life we live
no need to wait for a
special occasion
a new occupation
or a preferred destination
because no moment can be predefined
and we never know
how much time
we will have
be true to yourself
and love those around you
bee, honey, bvilive every moment
like it's brand new
don't get caught up
in the missing pieces
instead make your life
be a true thesis
a testimony to living to the fullest
and taking a smile even
when it's seems the dullest
take this moment to reflect
and then project
your positive energy
on enjoying your life.

POEM: Keep Faith In Front

There's no need to hide
no need to think suicide
things will turnaround
even as cliché as it may sound
keep both feet on the ground
because trouble is all around
it chooses no particular person
but causes stress for all humans
so don't get tied up and twisted
thinking about the problems that persist
instead keep faith in your pocket
and hold love in your locker
put your mind on what you can change
and do your best to rearrange
what you have control over
for those things you have for which you have no charge
pretend like they're on a big barge
and let them sail from your mind
and in time
you will see that it will all turn around
and your happiness will be found
just keep hope and faith alive
and put positivity in all you strive

The Blog Is Alive

I already have a post about putting my blog on the side so I won't go there tonight. I have been neglectful and to my blog and its readers, I apologize.

I think I have gotten too confident with my writing at work so I have put my blog, which has taken me so far, on the side. It's the same thing we do with family and friends. We tend to forget after we have made it. I'm reverting right back to my roots. Because of this blog, today I am a better writer and poet.

Because of the people in my circle, I am a better person. I have been able to experience so many good things and I am thankful. I am truly blessed. Things may not always go the way that I have planned, but God is in control.

I have to get back into the swing of things. I'm definitely going to be posting more in the blog. I think my Inspire VI page on Facebook has taken all my time. I've also been catching up at work to get myself current.

As the holidays are approaching, I am encouraging everyone to stay focused and enjoy themselves safely and responsibly!

Blessings.

POEM: I Say Yes!

I say "Yes"
YES! to being my very best
YES! for living beyond the stress
I won't back down
and I won't give up
because although I have a half-filled cup
it doesn't mean I'm down on my luck
So YES! it's time to give more and not less
while being confident on passing these tests
keeping the faith and holding firm
and completing feats beyond the norm
there's no reason to doubt the victory
what could happen in one day
may not be seen again for a century
It's YES! for me all the way
and negatives won't be able to sway
the way I'm thinking and moving today
I keep positive in everything I say
and I say YES!
I'm staying on a good beat
YES! I'm strengthening my feet
for the journey is not easy
and it's not meant for the queasy
so YES!
Stand up
Stand firm
and lead!

POEM: Don't Settle

Don't Settle

Don't settle
for lowest
or for the slowest
when you can put
positive energy forth
and show what you're worth
You are talented
you are a great friend
you are the one
that makes me smile
even when I'm down
so today
don't be dismayed
dust off and
move forward!

Be a good example to your children

It is not always easy to overcome your fears. It takes a lot to go on stage. It is not easy to take a hard test. It might even be uncomfortable to go on a job interview. However, you can't let life run ahead of you. You have to try.

As a parent, sometimes it's hard to convince your children to push on and do something that they are not comfortable with. In whatever case I can, I put myself out there so that I can set the example for them. They have seen me win and they have seen me fail. However, I don't give up because I have to be their inspiration and role model.

You should not seek to have your children live your dreams. I want to be clear on that. They have their own destiny. What we can do is to show them that we are confident and willing to push ourselves.

Be a good example to your children.

POEM: There Is A Time

Poetry

There is a time to smile
because helping someone to smile
makes the person forget
for a moment
what is bothering them
We have to cry
we have to put our burdens
into tears and let them flow out
We need to share
there are some who need
more than we do
so giving a little won't hurt a lot
Sometimes we are down
because no life is perfect
and with ups and down
we master patience
There is a time to let go
let go of the hurt
the negativity, the bad feelings
and then just smile
because you survived
and are ready for the next challenge

Being in Management

Management is not an easy task. Some people are given management positions without prior experience. Some have educational qualifications that would suit the position. Some just have the right attitude, while others are great at thinking on their feet.

A lot of us like to say that we want to be behind the scenes. However, we are the same ones who turn around and complain about being passed over. You have to make a decision. The behind the scenes person could be 'forgotten' when it's time for a promotion.

We like to decline challenges and tasks and I think that many of us regret it after. Each person is not management material and in today's economy, you have to be a critical thinker. I have discussed this with family and teachers and many people lack critical thinking skills. You have to be able to solve problems and make things work. A good manager puts his resources to good use.

So where do you stand? What can you do to improve your marketability in the workplace? Don't sit and wait for anyone to promote you. Look for opportunities to grow!

POEM: Dream for Unity

I have a dream
and it's to see a unified team
a team of all colors
shapes and sizes
where we don't compete for prizes
but we work together
for the common good
We can make positive change
in our community
but all we need is unity
there's no need for intense scrutiny
because our mission
is to help the masses
regardless of the classes
and there'll be no clashes
because the brashness
we are accustomed to
won't be tolerated
or accepted
we have to use our heads
and discourage the youths
from picking up the lead
we have to keep
our community clean
and let's talk seriously
to our teens
because no one today
has time
for foolishness
so we have to stand up
and show a oneness -
a togetherness
to get our country on track
so let's stop and pick
up the slack
and put unity
as a number one priority

Attitude, Faith and Love - how they blend

Your attitude determines your aptitude. So that means that faith should also determine your reach and love should play a big role in your strength. These are words that we throw around but it's serious. Sometimes you have to care too much. Sometimes you have to just have faith. Life is supposed to have challenges and we are supposed to look out for each other.

My words may seem simple and  trivial but they form the basis of our lives. Without a good attitude, faith and love, we are limited because it means we won't foster good relationships and we will continuously stay in a rut.

Who wants to stay that way?

  • Your attitude determines your aptitude.
  • Your faith determines your reach.
  • Love you enables you to have strength.

POEM: A New Thought

It's another day
when we can say
Hey Friend,
How are you?
Let's be wise today
and keep faith alive
cause this life relay
is God's way
to show us his love
while it may not be perfect
it may not be loving
it's real
and God won't leave us alone
so today
pray
smile
and live

Getting Children's School Uniforms Ready for School

uniforms
Parents who have school-aged children who wear uniforms have to make sure that uniforms are ready at the start of the school year and daily during school.

Uniforms are the norm in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and many other Caribbean Islands for both private and public school students in all levels of education, namely pre-schools, primary/elementary and secondary schools. Many parents plan ahead to get their children's uniforms ready before school starts. Uniforms need special attention during the school year to ensure that the clothing continue to look clean and fresh.

Typical Uniform Checklists for Boys and Girls
Schools of all levels typically provide parents with the details of the uniforms that children are to wear. Other than the particular school's uniform colors, there are standards for the uniforms for both boys and girls.
  • Buttoned-down or polo shirts: Most schools in the BVI require that children wear oxford buttoned-down shirts with the girls wearing the round-collar or Peter Pan collared shirts. Some public and private schools allow children to wear polo shirts but parents should always check with the school before purchasing the uniforms to avoid wasting money by buying twice.
  • Pleated skirts for girls: Most schools in the BVI require that girls wear knife-pleated skirts. In the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and other Caribbean islands, this may vary. Pre-school and kindergarten girls wear pleated skirts with a pinafore. BVI students have two options for acquiring their skirts as skirts can be made or purchased from the stores. Some parents prefer to have the uniform skirts made by a seamstress because they can choose the quality of the material which can help the skirts to last longer than the store bought skirts.
  • Jeans are not uniform for boys at school: Schools in the BVI are now requiring that boys wear uniform pants other than jeans. In the BVI, school pants for boys are colored maroon, navy blue, green, grey, black, khaki, brown and other colors and usually consist of a blend of cotton and polyester. So parents rely on local department stores or shopping overseas or online to find the uniform pants.
  • Socks are a part of uniform too: Socks are a part of a child's uniform since most schools require that children's socks compliment the tops and bottoms.
Tips for Getting Uniforms Ready for School
Shirts, skirts and pants have to be washed, ironed and cared for properly to promote longer wear and use.
  • Uniform shirts: When Oxford uniform shirts are newly bought, be sure to wash them before ironing or wearing. Polo shirts should also be washed before wearing and should be hung as soon as removed from the dryer for easier ironing. This also helps to keep the shape of the shirts.
  • Girls' uniform skirts: Whether made or purchased, girls' uniform skirts should be steam-ironed or taken to the dry cleaners to keep a crisp look. While pleated uniform skirts should be washed regularly, it is also important not to leave them too long in the dryer to avoid the pleats losing the crispness.
  • Boys uniform pants: Boys' uniform pants should be washed with like colors and should also be hung or neatly folded after removal from the dryer. Pants can be taken to the dry cleaner or ironed on the appropriate iron setting. Dark colored pants should be covered with a white cloth when ironing to avoid shine.
Uniforms for school-aged children are the norm in the Caribbean and can be costly. Parents should pay attention to the school's rules to avoid buying twice. Uniforms should be bought early to avoid the shopping rush. Take care of uniform shirts, skirts and pants by washing and ironing with care and dry-cleaning occasionally if possible so that the clothing can last longer.

Poem: New Thinking

Have you been
torn from the seams
or does it seem
that the world is against you?
Don't fight that battle
stay focused on
your goals.
There are times when
the enemy will be
working overtime
but you've got
a bigger friend
in Jesus
so don't get mislead
or defeated
the battle is not yours
leave it in the hands
of the master
cause he gave you talent
that you can use
to inspire a nation
make innovations
build a godly reputation
they'll think
you're the hit sensation
but you really
are just shining
God's light
so don't let
the present plight
stand in your way
Pray
and put your hope
where it needs to be
don't worry about
what you can't see
be encouraged
and let God
do his thing!

You Can Improve Your Job Situation

Do you hate your job? Are you fed-up of the 9 to 5? Have you been passed over for a promotion? Then what are you going to do about it?

This is not an advertorial for some scheme or some plan. This is plain and simple. Are you the problem that is hindering your success? Think about it - it could be you. It's not the end of the world. You have to see how you can improve yourself. Change your attitude, hone your skills or take up a new class. You can also look for another job, retire or open your own business.

Don't let one bad experience stop you from progressing. Be optimistic and proactive. You have to believe in you! If you work in a large organization, ask for a rotation to another department. Get ready to work and you will do well. If you are one of those lazy employees - be honest with yourself. If you are old enough to, retire. If you are not, then you need to change your attitude or you will always see someone new making taking the opportunities you desire.

Change is in your hands.

Weaponists and Ants Nesters......funny names

Don't be afraid to be vocal, but first you have to put your thoughts together and make sure that what you are saying makes sense. Don't be vocal just so that you can take over something or be obnoxious. No one likes that and actually it's quite disrespectful.

If you are going to speak out, speak with a solid counter plan and a solution to the problem at hand. Some people just like to be heard or it's like they just want to stir up an ant's nest. The word that come to mind again is "weaponists". I have been using this word loosely on my personal Facebook page but only very few would understand.

There are a lot of wicked and spiteful people in this world. I won't waste my space to dwell on them. They'll get what's coming to them in due course from the most high.

Don't be a "weaponist" or an "ant's nester" because you are just stirring up trouble. Let's get it together and get our acts right. Leave the wicked, desperate and dirty minded and stay on the positive track.

Keep your head on!

POEM: No Weapons

I see them coming my way
I feel them in my back
and know they are coming at my heart
literally and figuratively.
NO WEAPONS I say!
It's not a military war but
an intellectual and spiritual battle
I'm not a fighter but a strategizer
Plan for me
Cause I got plenty in store for you
Games – yes wicked games
You think you’ve got me tamed
You don’t know what’s in store
Underestimate me
Cause you don’t know what
You have awakened
Get ready

Being Picked On

Sometimes we, as human beings, feel that we are being picked on by persons older than us or who seniority over us. However, we need to evaluate what it is about our behavior that people would want to talk, counsel or reprimand us about. Are we too lackadaisical, clumsy, nonchalant, rude, lazy or tardy?

Is it something that we need to evaluate about ourselves and make changes to our thought process, behaviors or attitudes? I can improve me and so can you. Now they say that an old dog can't learn new tricks... Are we old dogs? We are brave cats and we will take risks, try to excel and seek to improve on our weaknesses.

I am constantly saying that people have to be responsible for their own behaviors and I stand by this. Sometimes people pick on you because they want to see the best in you and for you.

Don't be discouraged.

POEM: I Owe a Poem

I think I owe the world a poem
but I really owe myself
cause when I put down
my figurative pen
that I use to compose a thought
I put myself in drought
because this is my creative
outlet
and you can bet
that it's not writer's block
and it's not that my pen
was locked up
I just got lazy or hazy
and no, I was not
smelling any daisies
but I miss it when I don't compose
it's like I'm not composed
because this is my life
it is my balance
my joy, my passion
so I can't let procrastination win
I have to write
and not only that
I have to share
because a poem hidden
in a mind, in a closet
or in a locked book
can't inspire anyone
so I share my word with you
hoping that you will enjoy it

New Pet Peeve List

You know what gets me mad:

1. People who do not value your time. You don't have to care about my opinion or agree with me but don't waste my time. I try my best to meet people's timelines and I expect the same.
2. People who do not live up to their responsibilities. There are days I barely have lunch so that I can do what I have to. People are out there doing foolishness and expect to come to you for help. That's definitely an irker.
3. When people try to pull the wool over your eyes like you're stupid when you are not. I might not be the brightest bulb but I can pick up on things. Don't play me like I'm stupid.
4. People who run their mouths about things that they don't know about or that does not concern them. Mind your business and fix your business before you get into someone else's.

I guess I am a little peeved today but sometimes the nonsense is too much. People just need to do what they have to do!

Follow Fashion is the Thing

When we were going to school we had a slang about "follow fashion". It just meant that some people like to follow what others do whether it is good or bad. It's flattering to be copied. It simply means that you are doing something right.

I tell my children to think for themselves at all times and not to follow the foolishness that others do. Because we "follow fashion", we are in debt, our relationships have broken down and our lives are in turmoil. If you are going to "follow fashion", do it for positive things like getting an education that you can afford, buying a car that you can afford, building a house you can afford etc.

People are fickle and funny and you just have to deal with them and love them regardless. Everyone has their life to live and we are here to build each other up.

Remember, if you are going to "follow fashion", then do it for something positive and not out of envy. Do it because you want to emulate a positive behavior.

Sub-standard Behaviors Stink

I am really tired of the sub-standard behaviors that many people have adopted in the community. It's really time to step up the game. I'm tired of the lackadaisical attitudes everywhere. Why do we always have to be reactive. Don't let something happen to you. Make something happen for you.

You are the key to your success. You are the engine that effects change in your life. You can't wait for the system to change for you to get on board. You have to change to affect the system. Let other people emulate your good behavior and code of ethics.

We simply have to step up our game and take correction when it is needed. Let's move forward!

Problem Solving from a Different Angle

I am true believer in doing one's best. Why should anyone settle with doing something sub-standard or even below the acceptable line? I guess maybe I'm a little too much or expect too much. I guess my thinking is from another dimension. I also firmly believe that where I have a choice to say no that I should say it.

I find that people in many cases do not understand boundaries. They just take things for granted. When you realize this, you have to start deciding on how you deal with these individuals. I wouldn't say that I would drop a friend because of one incident. Instead, how can I positively influence him or her to do better. Sometimes my behavior might be the problem.

Regardless of what a situation might be, sometimes personal introspection is needed before attacking the problem. We have to seek to solve problems, not make them worse. Think beyond the seams, consult others and pray for guidance. Sometimes the solution may be harsh but there are instances where tough love is needed to correct a problem.

Paying Attention to the Little Things

Yesterday, I told my son that he needs to pay careful attention to what he is doing and reading. I also told him that there are adults who do not pay attention to anything that they do. They do a mediocre job when asked to do something and even when they volunteer, it is still not up to par.

It is frustrating dealing with people who behave like that and unfortunately, in today's crazy world, there is a lot of mediocrity out there. We get in from the teachers, employees, students, churches etc. It is sad that no one prides themselves in a job well done anymore. Things will never be perfect, however, we have to strive do well when we say we will do something.

I look at our children today and it's a fight to get them to do the right thing. You have to fight with the adults to do the right thing. So the present is shady and the future really does not seem that bright if we maintain this stance. What makes it worse is that no one wants to be guided or disciplined. How can we put up with these behaviors? When you try to correct people, they take it personal. However, rules are meant to be followed otherwise it would be total chaos in the world.

Each one of us can take a step to make the right decision or to utter a positive word to someone going down the wrong path. Do what you can to inspire someone.

POEM: Do What You Have To

Sometimes we jump into life
without a thought
and that's the way some things
should be handled
other things need that
due consideration
and meditation
so that positive
vibrations
can run through
not every decision will
be liked
but you don't
always have foresight
to predict the reactions
and a contraction
won't help
you just have to be you
do you
and live life
and be true
so do what you have to

Prayer for June 5, 2013

Today is June 5, 2013. Thank you Lord for another day. My prayer for today is:

Lord, I have been selfish, miserable and conceited and I would like to change my ways. Lord, help me to be patient, kind-hearted, giving and understanding. I pray for the world as we are going through some perilous times where the future has become more unsure. Help us to stay grounded and focused on living right and doing right. Strengthen us Lord so that we can have positive attributes and live lives that are pleasing to you.

AMEN

POEM: Risk Taker

I see a new way...
now it's about timing'
refining
and designing
the way forward
I don't want to be
afraid
I don't want to be
apprehensive
about taking
a leap of faith
because
no risks
mean
no progress
something's got to give
and it's my will
I have to take
the steps
necessary
to chart a path
that will get me to my goals
So when you see
change on the horizon
accept it
or move on
because
regardless of your feelings
life has to go on

Poem for a Sister Who Has Trod On

Positively radiant,
inspiring, a true gem...
an example to all women,
a nurturer,
a diligent worker,
someone you can
depend on -
a lady who showed
positivity
in every step
she took,
one that we'll always remember
because when this sister smiled
her positive energy
was shared with all
in her presence

Rest in Peace, Ijahkey.

Change is Good

Change is good. There are situations where people can't deal with it. In most cases, I welcome it and embrace it. If I wasn't open to change in my younger days, I would not be the person I am today. Sometimes, we have to step out of our box to learn new things and meet new people.

We have to be able to seek improvement for ourselves. What is the next step that you can take to launch your career to the next level? Is a degree or training needed? Do you need to master a new skill? I took a 6-week online course and it made make think differently.

What about your children? I have been using online games to help them and I think it is working. I get them involved in events and competitions so that they can build their confidence. I am very candid with them and I have told them that I expect more as they get older.

Could joining an organization help you. You can meet new people and maybe you may get involved in community activities that can benefit others.

Take a step forward. Take a leading role and see how you can progress and improve your life.

Be encouraged.

Just one of those days

When you are able to make decisions, you have to be careful. Sometimes, we have to think things through. I'm sometimes too hasty but I am working on that. I have to work on myself and keep trying to improve.

On another note, I met a lady who was an inspiration to many. She passed today and she will be missed. She has been a positive influence on me and I don't think I ever told her that. She was diligent, positive, beautiful and courageous. May she rest in peace and may her legacy be carried through her generations.

Be sure to tell people thanks, compliment them and encourage them!

Lots Going On

I  have been putting in a lot of time into some various matters because I want to move forward on some projects. We all have to set goals and make plans to implement these goals. I am going to throw on the teacher hat and make a test for my son to study by. I also have some craft projects to work on. It's going to be an early morning tomorrow so this blog post won't be much longer.

I'd like to encourage everyone to stay focused and diligent in whatever they do. If you see something that you can aim for, go for it!

It's MidTerm Test Time

It's time for Midterm tests for my son so I am delinquent with my blog. That's not good and it's no excuse but I have to put him first. The work is getting harder and I have to work with him. However, I have been keeping up with my Linette- Inspire VI page on Facebook where I share little blurbs to encourage people or to share tips and advice. The blog is more for the longer thoughts and poems that go over a paragraph.

I can't stay long because I realize that we need to go over fraction problem solving. I'll have to break it down to show that you have to find the whole first then seek to find the portion that is used. It's not easy being a parent - the provider, the teacher, the nurturer, the correcter and the counselor.

POEM: Don't Fret

As we cry
as we smile
and as we live
we have burdens
some heavy
some light
and there's some things
that are just not right
but it makes no sense to fight
because
your plight
is no different
to anyone else's
it's not necessarily
a pain
sometimes
but the rain can
make some change
in the game
don't fret
cause even if
you get wet
you just have to
dry off
not fly off
just try
to manage
cause these situations
don't need to cause damage
so even while
you're famished
you have justification
to do your best
and sometimes
you just leave
the rest
but know yourself
love yourself
and stand firm
in your choices

Ten Reasons to Look Past Your Frustrations

There are lots of reasons why people get frustrated. However, there are lots of reasons to look past the frustrations and move on:

  1. God loves you
  2. You can succeed
  3. Challenges are only for a time
  4. Your family loves you and depends on you
  5. You are an inspiration to other people who you may not know
  6. You are a role model to some younger person
  7. There are people who have it worse than you
  8. You are acting too hasty on a matter
  9. You may have blown things out of proportion
  10. Your attitude determines your aptitude
You can't stay stuck in the past. Look forward and move forward. Remember the steps you took along your journey but don't let anything hold you back.

POEM: Where It's At

Are you afraid
or are you weighted
what's on your mind
are you fine
or are you just lost
or is your mind
in another place
as you pace and pace
not sure of where
you are going
not knowing
that time is fickle
and while you may
be tickled
with the way
life is going
don't let it all
get your down
because in time
things will turnaround
and you will be found
and when you stand
safe and sound
it'll be all ok

POEM: Inconsistencies

Inconsistencies are a constant
but background checks are non-existent
no level playing field
but lots of underhanded evil deeds
there seems to be no end in sight
the people don't even want to fight
but as more things come to light
we're seeing that living is tight
and every night
the plunderers are out to get us
in high and low places
there's no one to trust
change is in the people's hands
change may have to become
the plan
and when I say change
I mean for the better
cause I what see
needs more than a letter
and what I know is that
it can't continue
we have to raise our morals
and fix the issues
the unfinished business
and petty nonsenses
and the broken cookie jar
and that's just the start
but the real start
starts with you

Lauryn Hill's Hit Album: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill is a powerful lyricist and singer and her first album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, gained acclaim with hits like "Ex-Factor" and "To Zion."

In 1998, Lauryn Hill (http://www.lauryn-hill.com/) released her first solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill with Ruffhouse Records. There are a total of sixteen songs on this album including two bonus songs "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and "Sweetest Thing Mahogany Mix ." "Ex-Factor," "Doo Wop (That Thing)" and "Everything is Everything" are some of the popular songs from this album. Hill's official site shares that "Lauryn Hill's solo debut sold 8 million copies in the U.S., spawned 4 top ten singles, and garnered Hill five Grammy (http://www.grammy.com/) awards." The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was written and arranged by Hill.

Lauryn Hill Started with The Fugees
Lauryn Hill's voice was firstly widely recognized through her singing with Wyclef Jean and
Pras in The Fugees. They delivered the hits "Killing Me Softly" and "Ready Or Not." Hill was also recognized for the song "Sweetest Thing" which was featured on the soundtrack from the film Love Jones starring Nia Long and Larenz Tate (http://www.larenztate.com/). Her stunning
dark face and afrocentric hairstyles also caught attention as she landed on the covers of Time and Rolling Stone.

The Mis-education in the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
The cover of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill features a sketch of this talented R&B and Hip Hop artist. A wooden pencil lays flat on both the front and back cover of the CD. Hill ties in her mis-education further with the classroom themed interludes between the songs. A school bell rings and a roll call starts off the "Introduction" of this powerful album. Names are called and every student answers until "Lauryn Hill" is called three times with no answer. The classroom setting is continued at the end of "Lost Ones." The teacher shares that he will write letters on the board and the students recite the letters "L-O-V-E". They talk about songs about love and mention Kirk Franklin's song "Love" and a song from the movie Titanic. The discussion continues at the end of "To Zion," "Doo Wop (That Thing)," "When It Hurts So Bad," "Forgive Them Father" featuring Shelly Thunder and "Every Ghetto, Every City."

Top Hits From Lauryn Hill First Solo Album
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill features artists such as Mary J. Blige (http://www.mjblige.com/) and D'Angelo. This album can be considered a cross between soul, R&B, Hip Hop and a hint of jazz. Some songs have live instruments in the recording including "To Zion" featuring Carlos Santana and "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" featuring the Indigo Quartet.
  • "Nothing Even Matters" featuring D'Angelo: "Nothing Even Matters" has a soul and jazzy feel and powerful lyrics that sing about love. "I sometimes have the tendency / to look at you religiously" are lyrics sung by D'Angelo. Hill assures her lover that no natural catastrophe or the threat of unemployment could change her feelings towards him.
  • "Ex-Factor" is an Ode to the Exes: Lauryn Hill sings the lead and background vocals on this emotional song. "Ex-Factor" is a painful yet expressive song that sings about breaking up. "When I try to walk away, you hurt yourself to make me stay" and "cause no one's hurt me more than you / and no one ever will" are examples of the lyrics. "Ex-Factor" contains a sample from Wu-Tang Klan (http://www.wutang-corp.com/)'s "Can It All Be So Simple." Wu-Tang Kan's song was originally sampled from Barbra Streisand (http://www.barbrastreisand.com/us/home)'s "The Way We Were" which was written by Marvin Hamlisch and Alan and Marilyn Bergman (http://www.alanandmarilynbergman.com/).
  • The Title Track "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill": "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" is a deep song about finding oneself. Her words "And every time I try to be / What someone has thought of me / So caught up, I wasn't able to achieve" show personal struggle. The lines she repeats "I made up my mind to find my own destiny" reflect that through the soul searching, the resolution was made to fend for herself to live as she chooses.
  • "To Zion" is a Song to Lauryn Hill's Son: In the 'Shout Outs & Thank You's' of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Hill states "Zion (you delivered me)!!! My joy and my light, Mommy loves you." Hill paired with Carlos Santana on the guitar to present this inspiring song about the love for her son, Zion. Her chorus is simply "the joy of my world is in Zion" in expressing her love for her son.
Lauryn Hill is multi-talented as she can sing, write and arrange music. She is an appreciated and loved artist. Since her release of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998, she released MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 in 2002. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which won five Grammy awards, will remain coveted by many upcoming artists and loved by millions of fans because of its success and timelessness.

POEM: It's About You

What do you want for yourself
Do you want to be last
or the very best
are you contented
with the minimal
or can you take it
to the next level
what may depress you
should be your inspiration
because you'll only get
elation
when you have truly
surpassed those
difficult challenges
until you know
what it means to persevere
you'll never appreciate
the joy what hard work can give
so do something
for yourself
get off the lazy shelf
and renew your mind
and refresh your thinking
evoke a new awakening
and do something
for yourself

The Five Adjectives I Like for Me

There are several adjectives I would like people to use to describe me. Of course, this means that I have to interact and communicate with them in some way.

1. Consistent.
If I act strange, let me be consistent at it. I am just 'me'. I am consistently hardworking, driven and straight-up.

2. Humorous
I do love a good joke and I try to throw my little joke once in a while too. However, preferably not at anyone's expense.

3. Straight-up
I'm getting better at that every day. If I am not going to do something, I am not. I don't bend easily and I stand firm on my opinion/thoughts. Of course, this standing firm is after I have carefully weighed the situation. I'm not one of the those persons who just jump and say no.

4. Helpful
I try to be but to a point. People like to use you when they know you can do things and I can't stand lazy people - refer to point #3.

5. Honest
I try to be but there are times when something may be omitted.

I want to have good qualities like everyone else and I aspire to do the best. I encourage you to do the same.

Email, Social Media and Those Games

Google upgraded its mail and I am trying to get accustomed to it. I like the little pop-up for composing mail. I find it harder to locate the chat feature but that's not so bad because chatting can be distracting. I'm one of those people who have turned off my Facebook chat. I hardly open my Hotmail and I also turned off the Yahoo chat.

I'm sorry but I'm just not into that anymore - it's way too distracting. Imagine those people with all the apps, BBs, bleeps and blips all at one time?! I'm still pulling it simple. I love my social media but I can't be joining everyone other thing. And don't get me started on the games that are tied into social sites.

I started off with Farmville - yes, I did. Then I just got fed up! I like my MSN games because there are no stipulations for me to invite anyone to play and I get my badges if I want to try to get them. There's no pressure and no need to involve anyone else.

Everything is so linked today. When I post on my blog, there are people in my circle who will get the notification. Then I post to Facebook and then on Twitter. I love the idea of this. This is technology at its best linking us all together.

Inspiration is a 'boss'

Inspiration is a 'boss'. Now I'm saying that in VI dialect. I mean that it's impressive and it has influence - which it actually does. I just really have to smile when I see the movement of people these days. I took part in a concert the other night and one of the performers shared a quote about people who tend to distract others who are actually doing something. I liked it of course.

Many times I have had to get over myself and accept what is going on. You can't be positive and negative. You can be cold and hot and for sure, you can't serve two masters. We all just need to real with ourselves and see what we can do and what we can contribute.

What change can you effect? If you are in an organization, will they say it is better because you were there? Can you inspire someone? I have been trying to inspire someone and I have never been able to really fully get through. I have to make a stronger effort. Talent is something we cannot let fall in our loved ones, friends or neighbors.

I am so blessed - even if I am a jack of some trades and still master none. I am happy in the skin I'm in. Inspiration is a 'boss' once it's all the way positive!

The Real Ribbon - My Journey....Credit Cards, No Car etc....

I have learned the hard way in some cases but I have also learned to fix problems before they get out of hand. When I first ventured into the thought of home ownership, I talked to an architect about going forward. His bill alone was almost the half the cost of the property. I did not want to empty my savings at the time so I went into a local bank and told them I wanted the loan for the amount. They declined me and said I didn't have enough job history.

I was deflated and annoyed. I had my credit card and I took a cash advance. I was always savvy with credit cards and I knew I could do a balance transfer when the time was right and I got a good interest rate. I was able to make the transfer after but I still had to knock down that bill. Having worked in banks, as a teller and in the loans department, I realized how important it is to be credit card savvy. In addition to the charge for the house plans, I had charged other items. I worked my hardest to clear those outstanding balances in a reasonable time. I then closed my credit cards. I made a decision that if I cannot afford something, then I don't need it.

Plus, I have more responsibilities now so I can't be racking up big balances. I have to be wise. I have to meet my priorities first. I don't have much furniture and no full closets but I don't really care. I know that even though it continues to be a struggle, I need to meet my monthly commitments. I don't have a car either and that was a tough decision at the time. While, I am not happy about being able to move when I want, I just can't afford it right now.

I am plain and real. I don't see why more people are not realistic on this level. I am a thrift store shopper. I think if I hadn't made these 'radical' choices, I would not be where I am today.

Life is about our choices. Sometimes we make bad ones but we have to get over it and move forward with our lives. So be real with yourself. If you are in over your head, sell the junk, sell the house you can't pay for and get credit counselling.

Came....Seen....Conquered....

This week has been interesting. I have accomplished a lot, seen new things and have learned a lot too. I got to see how people crack under pressure and how they deal with new situations and challenges. It's good that many of us can say that "we've came, we've seen and we've conquered". Some got there, they saw but definitely did not conquer. There are others who just came but were totally oblivious to the situation. I have been 'asea' like that in the past and depending on the topic, I can get like that too.

I have learned from the best. I have seen the meanest and I have seen the nicest. I want to take a little from each and move myself to the next level. I have to keep my head on and keep focused and I encourage you to do the same. Don't be easily defeated or discouraged. Life was never meant to be smooth so we should not expect less.

I have some little projects that I am brainstorming and some that are being put into action. I like to step out and do. What's your talent? Use it wisely!

POEM: Obstacle Course

Don't fear if these days you feel weaker
or if debt has you held down -
deeper and deeper
do you have a loved one
who has strayed from the flock
don't know if he's far away
or around the block
what about the tensions
you face on your job
you know ...those days
that you cry and sob
Are you just feeling depressed
like your life is an empty nest
Is it about that true love of your life
who took your heart and cut it with a knife
Do you feel like you're the next hot topic
and when people describe you -
it's sometimes graphic

Well I know someone
who can solve these problems
and give you joy
and help you erase them
When you feel like you are at your lowest
that you're tossed in the storm
and lost in the tempest
there is hope for you to make it through
so you'll get strength and feel renewed
gain confidence and forget the nonsense
because in these times of war and turbulence
you need your armor and your full strength

So don't give up
and never give in
You are on an obstacle course to win
Put your faith and trust
in God Almighty
and do your best to live uprightly
seek good counsel and be your brother's keeper
cause in turn Jesus will be your keeper
He is a friend anytime you need him
He loves every man and forgives their sins
so yes you still can conquer the odds
just put your faith and trust in God

Written with Fire - Today's Blog Post

We continue to play around with each other when we need to be serious. There are a lot of things that are not going right. We don't stand up when we need to and we don't fight for each other. When I say this, I mean when we see things going wrong, we don't pull up each other.

I cannot deal with mediocrity and while we can't complain for everything that goes wrong, how long must we stay quiet and watch the foolishness continue. If people are in an organization and they cannot be corrected, then something is wrong. When I say corrected, I mean that they are not fulfilling their roles the way that they should. How long will we continue to accept the nonsense because we don't want to offend.

Please offend me if I am doing wrong so I can wake up. I am not perfect and I know many of my flaws. I am working on them day by day. Please bear with me and bear me in prayer. However, while you bear with me, know that I am bearing with you too and we have to be each other's keeper. Be a seeker for greatness and someone who inspires others, not a criticizer who offers nothing positive.

Let's go man!

Taking time to smile

Life can be up and down and some days you just need to laugh. It's good when you work in an office where you can get a smile during the day. It's awesome when you have some friend or family member who will call you just to give you a joke to make you laugh. We all need that. I can't go through the day without getting something to laugh at.

It's not everything that we will agree is funny but at least an attempt at it can help when you are feeling down. Of course, I do not encourage you to laugh at others' expense or at their situations. However, you can look for a short joke on the internet.

I enjoy looking for one or two liners to share via social media. If it can make another person laugh then at least I gave someone a smile. When you are in pain or feeling down, a little joke can really make your day.

So this is a one-liner I found:

Grandpa: "Go hide, your teacher is here because you skipped school today!"
Boy: "No you go hide. I told her you were dead!"

LOL!
