It's Good to Give

Today I spent my day with Miss Teen Diva, Shaemore Smith, and pageant founder, Camille Merry asking shoppers at Rite Way's Pasea supermarket in Tortola to give little tokens to bless someone who suffers from mental health issues. The support was overwelming and I am very happy.

I have been so blessed by others inmy lifetime and I think that today is a true testimony to the goodness of God. I truly want to thank my friends, visitors and everyone who gave a little token today. The goodies will be dropped off on Monday to the Community Mental Health Centre who will share with the persons they work with.

Even in the wake of the crazed shooting in CT, I feel that the shooter had some issues that were unresolved that caused him to snap. We have to be our brother's keeper and watch out for one another. Who can you help this holiday season - even if it's to prune a tree, wash a car or mop a floor - see who you can give to!

Blessings!!!

Sharing for this Christmas

Christmas is such a weird time of the year. It becomes too commercialized for me at times but the real reason is to celebrate how great our God is and to commemorate Christ's birth here on earth.

There are so many events: Christmas tree lighting, school concerts, church concerts, parties etc. I honestly prefer to just stay in my corner and relax myself. I guess I've never been one for the whole Christmas thing and from long, I've had my own sense of how things should run.

I don't have time or money to fall prey to the one-sided meaning of this season. I want to be able to give more - even it's more time to a cause. I'm spending my Saturday morning at Rite Way in Pasea in Tortola to do a grocery drive for persons who suffer from Mental Health issues. This is what the season should be about. Sharing with someone and passing it forward. I have to aim to do better and do more for others - not just those who always want something from me - but those who really need me.

So for this season and going forward, I want to see what service I can apply myself too. Think about it and let me know if I'm making sense.

Let 2013 Be a Year for the Community

People blame a lot of things on a leap year. It's probably because the year is in multiples of four and then February gets 29 days. I think things just happen. Unfortunately, coincidences are events that happen closely together.

It is strange that we have lost a few men - young and old over the past few weeks. Wives are without husbands and children are without dads. However, it takes us back to being a community that sticks together. When something tragic happens in a small country or locale, it affects the entire populace. We all cry because we know someone who was affected.

As 2012 comes to a close and as we enter 2012, let us be more community minded and really focus on sticking together. We have to be our brother's keeper and this is something that I will not stop reiterating. Let us stand together in unity and continue to pray and strengthen each other.

Let 2013 be the year for unity and community spirit.

POEM: Not On Our Own

We are all sinners
and while we all want to winners
some days it's dimmer
than others
but we have to persevere
and prepare
for the good and the bad
which can come at any moment
but regardless of the outcome
we can't let ourselves become
unfaithful
or ungrateful to God
because he always has our back
and gives us the things we lack
so be strong
cause we might work hard for long
but God won't let us down
or leave us alone
and he won't leave us to fight on our own
so keep the faith
and be patient while you wait
because everyone' journey is different
and each man needs to be content
cause God is omnipotent
and his love has no measurement
it's the same for me
and the same for you
and it's all true

My Social Media Behavior

I have a certain social media pattern of behavior. I post jokes, poems and inspirational tidbits. I am not about bawling about my job or my family there.

I like sharing cute pics, new items and other social events that are going on. Afterall, it is 'social' media even though it can be annoying and can cause havoc at times. Some people share inappropriate posts and curse a lot.

I try not to do that because everyone's on Facebook and Twitter. I don't really delete anyone. Even the scam artist who listed himself as a UVI alumni when he wasn't. Then he sent out these horrible scam letters to me and others stating that he worked in a bank and knew of bank accounts in my 'family' member's name. RIGHT! I have not deleted him either.

I want to know that I am an inspiration to others. I feel that my story may help someone in their quest so I am happy to share.

Does Your Career Need a Wake-up Call?

career, call, wake-up
Does Your Career Need a Wake-up Call?

It's a good question, isn't it!

Where do you stand today?
Are you challenged on your job?
Will you be missed if you leave today?
What have you come up with that shows your initiative and leadership?
Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?

We have to ask ourselves these questions and position ourselves to move to the next level. Whether it's acting in a post or attending training, we have to find ways to get to the next level.

Don't ever be one of those people who sit there watching new people coming into the organization and grumble about the person's qualifications or salary. Instead, see what you can do to get a promotion or for you to be ready for the next level..

It's in your hands. Have you been doing research on your own that can help your organization or help you to be more efficient? Find it and find out how you can be a better employee.

Don't let yourself be passed over!

December is Here!

Welcome to December. It's the month where people go crazy shopping for the holidays. Most people are in financial ruin after this season because they don't want to look 'less' than anyone else and they want to give a gift to everyone.

People forget about frugality in December and spend like crazy. Some do look for worthwhile causes or special gifts that another person will appreciate. There are many unfortunately who just go shopping crazy just because they can.

I encourage you to give to your loved ones but if you can't afford it, then be honest with yourself. Maybe spending time might be more important. You can also look for one person in the neighborhood that you can share love with. You can seek out a homeless person and drop a meal for them. It can also be a senior as well. Just find one worthwhile cause this season and bless someone.
