Finally Seeing "A Series of Unfortunate Events"

After playing the internet game, "A Series of Unfortunate Events", I was today finally able to see the movie. Unfortunately, I did not see the beginning but from the time I saw the characters on TV, I knew it was the movie. Somehow, I enjoy these types of fantasy movies. Maybe it was the books that I was exposed to growing up.

I read a lot of fairy tales, the Chronicles of Narnia and a lot of Nancy Drew. I just loved to read (and now I 'claim' to be a writer). Somehow these stories and movies with the unique characters have made some impact on me. I feel that I can do anything I put my mind to. Thank God, today I stand where I am comfortable in my own skin.

We all need to have a little imagination and some optimism. I think that is why the Bible was put together so that we can have hope in God. The fairy tales, which some people frown on for different reasons, also present some semblance of hope. Be wise in what you do and always seek divine guidance.

So for 2013, if you want to sing, get lessons and sing. If you want to write, get a pen and start. Just start and stay committed to what you want to do and achieve.

Season's Greetings!!!!

Have a blessed day today!
Be sweet in everything you say
Even if you don't get your way
Be sure to watch and pray!
So in your work and play
whether your hair is black or gray
and no matter in what direction you sway
Remember God when you start your day!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Eve Blog Post

Children have the greatest imaginations. My daughter has me playing  with dollies from time to time and I enjoy doing it with her. She chats a lot and she's a cool little six year old. My son loves trucks - he's draws them, he pretends that he is one and anything in his hand becomes a truck. he's a happy eight year old.

They are both pretty contented with themselves, other than when they start to fight with each other. However, they say that's a part of growing up. I never experienced the closeness with my siblings growing up - actually until I was already 16 - so it's all new to me still.

As it relates to Christmas, I'm not all about the shopping and hopping and popping. For me, it's about giving or sharing what you can afford. I made two gestures this year and would like to do more and not just at this time.

I wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday season and I hope that 2013 is filled with inspiration, improvement and excellence.

POEM: All the best

As I wish for you all the best
I pray that you can withstand our daily tests
for everyday is not a smooth run
and somedays, the race isn't won
but we have to persevere
and sometimes take a dare
to be different
cause even if it's the present
or you're running for the future
make time for structure
so you'll have a balanced life
and you'll enjoy the time
that you spend on this earth
cause after your birth
there's no guarantee on your last day
so live your life in the best way
and do the right things
dance, relax and sing
and most of all pray
so that whether your hair is gray
white or black
you''ll never be taken aback
instead you'll be ready
to face whatever comes

Taking Corrections

Today, people do not like to be corrected by others. It is sad because we all need to be pulled up when we err. I find that it's even worse with our young people. Many of them do not respect authority in school or in church, and then when they enter the job market, we can only hope that they will do better.

I think it's sad that as a society, we are not willing or are afraid to correct each other when we falter. I make mistakes and sometimes it is the youngest or simplest person that corrects me. I may be taken off-guard, sometimes annoyed or even embarrassed but this does not stop me.

I am seeing cases where young people are out of control and I can only pray that my children will not go down that path. I've already told them that I am serious and I will not reward unacceptable behavior. We have to draw the line somewhere. I also expect the adults around me to give my children encouraging words. I do the same when I see other children, even if I don't know them.

If we all take a blind eye to the wrongs of the world, then we are just as bad as the people committing the crimes. Someone has to take a stand. Now, you will get some rude reactions from the people in general when you try to show them the right way; but this is all part of growing up. You will receive opposition. Everyone will not agree with your decisions.

However, you would have done the right thing. Of course, your approach has to be one that makes the listener want to adhere to what you say. Bombarding people is not the way to go, unless the situation calls for it. In many cases, gentle reminders can work. We have to be careful that we are not 'bad' messengers where our behavior strangles the message.

If you see me going wrong, let me know please and this is the same for my children. I will always try to encourage my people and let's see how we can all help each other improve.

It's Good to Give

Today I spent my day with Miss Teen Diva, Shaemore Smith, and pageant founder, Camille Merry asking shoppers at Rite Way's Pasea supermarket in Tortola to give little tokens to bless someone who suffers from mental health issues. The support was overwelming and I am very happy.

I have been so blessed by others inmy lifetime and I think that today is a true testimony to the goodness of God. I truly want to thank my friends, visitors and everyone who gave a little token today. The goodies will be dropped off on Monday to the Community Mental Health Centre who will share with the persons they work with.

Even in the wake of the crazed shooting in CT, I feel that the shooter had some issues that were unresolved that caused him to snap. We have to be our brother's keeper and watch out for one another. Who can you help this holiday season - even if it's to prune a tree, wash a car or mop a floor - see who you can give to!

Blessings!!!
