Little Children Have Peer Pressure Too....

March 8 is International Women's Day. I encourage all the women around me and who read my blog to continue to persevere despite the challenges that we face. Don't give up and never let anyone stand in the way of your dreams.

Today, my daughter related to me that another child at school told her that she didn't like the outfit I helped her to coordinate. I told my darling child that the other little girl was just hating on her. I find that some parents allow their children to feel that they are above others and do not teach them manners. While my children are not perfect, I try to instill certain values in them.

I saw the hurt in my daughter's eyes and I understand her stance on the matter. At her age, she is easily bruised. However, I see how peer pressure can really affect children and I tried to give both children a little pep talk to boost their confidence. Afterall, it remains my duty to boost their self esteem and self confidence.

Moving Words of Ribbon Forward

At 50,000 page views and 579 blog posts, I feel like a star. My blog may not be as popular as other people''s but for me, it is something special. Thank you very much to all the visitors!

Today was celebrated as Read Aloud day in the BVI and I took the opportunity to share one of my poems, Reciprocation on Radio ZBVI 780. I tried to use intonation and to be very expressive. The announcer said he enjoyed the poem and I hope the listening audience did too.

This blog has been a boost for me in so many ways. It is my blank palette where I can hone my writing and where I can share my new poems. I can raise awareness on an issue or share the triumph of positive event.

It's my way to put myself out there in a positive way. It's my way to inspire someone to do something new and take their dream to another level. This blog has been my way into other opportunities and I am going to keep excelling. It's in me and it's in you - innovate and follow your passion.

POEM: Staying True

I'm not one for playing around with fire
but I will be on fire to reach my desires
I have the need to rise higher
and despite my prior misdemeanors
I want a record that's cleaner
I want my tomorrow to be much better
because I am a positive trendsetter
I'm not one to waste time
or throw away that thin dime
for I endeavor to get what's mine
not yours, because that belongs to you
so you know I am a friend that's true
and despite what you think you knew,
today I am a new being
yes - far more that the exterior you are seeing
so don't stay there in idle dreaming
because just as music today is streaming
time passes in just a moment
and while we may be content
in our personal situations
sometimes it needs a new direction
my momentum is forward
and all I can give you is good words
words of encouragement and delight
words that can make your day bright
so open your senses to what's real
and as you deal with the world around you
think positive and always stay true

POEM: Reciprocation

If you see me falling
or notice that I have fallen
don't let me down
or leave me down
cause that's when I need your help
not a whelp
When your brother needs your assistance
instead of putting up a resistance
see how you can lend a hand
help him on his feet to stand
cause you don't know when it's your time
and even as the clock chimes
a perfect day can turn into a mess
leaving you laying on your back or chest
so don't be all about you
and thinking who you want to sue
instead help your brother
and offer your hand to another
if you see me down
don't leave me to frown
pull me up with you
make me feel that your love is true
pray that I reciprocate
because on that date
that you need me
I want to be
there to stand with you
to extend my hand too
so let's work together
so everyday life can be better

Colloquial Night

Well me boy, is thing with ahyu tonight. I feel like typing in island dialect tonight. Is thing with ahyu because ahyu moving like things so good. Well, I guess if ahyu feel so, then is so. All I can say is ahyu is a hot mess - not hotness but a hot mess.

I have so much to do and I ain't even bothering with nobody and them stupidness. So don't bother me cause I ain't studying you.

I am a Virgin Islander to the bone. VI Massive, where ahyu is? I repping VI all the way.

Anyway, writing in dialect is harder than speaking it...so that's it for tonight.

ONE LOVE!

Bettering Me

We all play different roles in our lives. Some days we are strong parents while other days we are soft employees. However, we should always try to align ourselves with positive behaviors and positive people. I think sometimes I am too frank but I feel bad within myself to hold back sometimes - especially if it is something that affects me. My emotion is on my sleeve and when my personality gets peeved, I lash back and out.

We should never let ourselves get to that. We have to find ways to get our point across but preferably when we are calm and settled. There are certain things that get on my nerves and I find some people have a total disregard for protocol, for rules and for others in general. It cannot work. Some people like to throw their work on others. It cannot work. No one wants to pull their weight but are always complaining.

I complain too yes but I am working on bettering ME. My pastor gave a similar sermon on Sunday past. Everyone wants change in the church but what is each individual doing to see change happen? Things happen and we get frustrated, but we have to find ways to help ourselves to grow whether professionally, religiously or personally. If you find you have a problem with spending money, then go and see a financial advisor or talk to someone who seems to have it together.

It's only when you talk to others you realize that everyone is struggling and other people are in worse situations. Stop for a moment and devise a way to deal with your situation. You have to change you. No special boss, pastor, husband or parent can change you. You have to work on yourself first.

Ships & Bridges

"Build a ship before you burn a bridge". This is an excellent quote to live by. Relationships are so important in your personal life, career, religion and community involvement. I think we should try not to burn bridges and instead work on building healthy relationships.

People will offend you and some will willfully try to hurt you. You have to forgive them and move on. Stay wary of them though because you never know when a snake will strike. Don't be naive and let them use you. Forgive and move on with your life.

You will also offend people and you try to mend that bridge because you will never know where you will end up. You will then have to ask for forgiveness and pray that the offended person will forgive you.

Be willing to compromise and sometimes you have to be the bigger person. I can also be the smaller person too if the situations requires it. It all depends on what your viewpoint is in the situation.

So keep building those ships and maintaining those bridges. There are people that you will eliminate from your life but I am sure the reasons will be clear. I've done some elimination and I have also been eliminated. I've moved forward with a goal of keep those bridges functional and building strong ships.
