Today's Promptober Word is Cycle. I could have gone in several directions but decided to write a tanka. These prompts from Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe have been inspirational. I appreciate this challenge on many levels.

Poem: Telephone
I wrote this poem based on the October 21, 2024 word prompt, telephone, from Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe. Today is also Heroes and Foreparents Day in the Virgin Islands and I thought it would be fitting to share this poem since I focused my thoughts on my foreparents.

POEM for World Food Day 2024: Overload
Today is World Food Day and I am sharing this poem based on a prompt.
Promptober Day 16: OVERLOAD
Prompt compliments of Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe
𝑂𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑑
We all have
A right to food for a better life
And a better future
We should be
increasing food production
investing in agriculture
While showing appreciation for nature
But some have
An overload of everything
They need and more
Instead of sharing
They prefer to be miserly
And enhance their stores
While others
Suffer from hunger and thirst
And with climate change
It only gets worst
We do need
Access to healthy food
Remember the
“Milk, it does your body good?”
Commercials of long ago
We need
Safely produced food
That will keep our bodies strong
We don’t need
Food filled with too much preservatives
To make it last far too long
An overload
Of chemicals and harmful ingredients
That wreck our immune system and
Throw our hormones out of whack
We need
An overload of healthy choices
And for this, we need to overload our voices
And bring action from the farm to the table
Because everyone is still more than able
And we are smart with technology
That we can devise new farming methodologies
That can coexist with climate change
Because if there is one right I can give
It would be for people to eat healthy and live
An overload of love

Video: Sharing Poetry for Reading is Fun Week 2024
I had the pleasure of sharing some poems with students at the Ivan Dawson Primary School and the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School. I treasure any time that I spend with the younger generation sharing poetry or encouraging words!
I shared these poems:
- 𝕆𝕕𝕖 𝕒𝕦𝕩 𝕋𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕥𝕥𝕖𝕤
- The Vacuum Speaks
- Mango Array

Poem: relief
Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe, thank you for today's prompt word, "relief." Life is a journey of ups and downs and I wanted my piece to show what happens when things are upside down and when you land on your feet.

Poem: One Hand by Linette Rabsatt
This piece is based on the Caribbean saying that "one hand can't clap." Let me know if I captured the essence of this proverb in this piece.

Heartfelt
the race is not for the swift
but when God grants you a gift
be sure to use it wisely
and with his guidance
use it timely
because you should seek
to do better
you should work proudly
to honor your ancestors
because legacy is a true concept
remember our foreparents'
hard work and intellect
use that inspiration
to ensure that you leave the nation
in a better condition
that you met it in

My Poetic Journey: Highlights from August 2024
I would call August my regeneration month. The territory was filled with activity. We celebrated the 70th Emancipation Festival with a plethora of exciting activities. I continued to promote work by sharing poems and participating in online events. I also submitted poems to several journals and magazine for review.
Here’s what August looked like for me:
- Pulse Poetry Magazine
- Calling All Poets Series
I performed during the Calling All Poets Series Open Mic on August 2. I'm on from 1:59:40 to 2:02:05, but of course, I encourage you to view to the entire reading to hear the featured readers and other open mic performances.
- Poetry Competition
I joined another She Barz Poetry Competition focused on Mental Health on August 3.
- Hurricane Ernesto
On August 14, Hurricane Ernesto impacted the Virgin Islands. My garden surely took a hit. However, I persevere.
- Poetry Judging
I was one of the judges in a She Barz Competition focused on comedy on August 24, 2024.
- Performance
I performed at Nita Chase’s Poets and Spoken Word Artists Exhaling on the Mic on August 24.
- Music Blog
I interviewed Stefan about his new album NORI and shared the article on August 24.
I hope to have lots more to share in September. Of course, if please grab a copy of my book, Be Inspired: Poems by Linette Rabsatt.

Here's a haiku:
earth's heart beats wildly
turbulence dances supreme
rain and thunder roam
