My November Highlights and a Poem

I think this month was my busiest for 2024. I met new poets and creatives, shared my insights and poetry on various platforms, and channeled new ideas. I don't know what December will bring, but I will be sharing some old and new work!

Pulse Poetry Magazine
Did you read Issue 7 of Pulse Poetry Magazine? You can find me on pages 5 and 6. Issue 8 will be launched on December 1!

Video: We are the Harvest
I shared We are the Harvest on November 3, 2024 at the Belle Vue Methodist Church's Harvest.

Read Yuh Ting TOO Virtual Caribbean Poetry Contest
I participated in the Read Yuh Ting TOO Virtual Caribbean Poetry Contest organized by the West Indian Women Network on October 24, 2024. I am humbled to share that I won after competing with regional counterparts who impressed me with their wordplay and style. Thank you to Mrs. Dale Pilgrim-Wade for sharing the competition flyer with me. Also, thank you to the West Indian Women Network for hosting this competition.

I'm on from 28:06 until 30:05, but watch the entire video for all the participating poets.

I had an awesome time being interviewed by Priscilla Ramcharan of the West Indian Women Network. I love being able to share my insights and inspiration. You will also hear my rendition of my poem, Bob Marley Vibrations.

Are you a Mango Lover?
I shared two poems at the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School on November 4, 2024. They were able to capture my performance of Mango Array. What's your favorite mango?

BVI LitFest Panel - Roots to Routes
I shared the stage with facilitator, Enrica Rymer, and co-panelists, Toyer Fahie, Dr. Dierdra Wheatley, and her sister, Denesha Wheatley. We read poems from elders, Sheila Hyndman, Dr. Quincy Lettsome, and Jennie Wheatley, and from our personal collections. I shared Black Diamond, a poem dedicated to my late grandfather, Sanford "Black Diamond" Rabsatt.

Lousiana Lyricists Lounge
I was so happy to chat with Pawcram on the Lousiana Lyricists Lounge podcast on November 10, 2024.

The Paradox Magazine
I am so happy to share that a few of my pieces and a short story have been published by The Paradox Magazine on their website!

  • I participated in the Cultivating Voices Wild Card Open Mic on October 20, 2024. I'm on from 59:00 to 1:01:50 performing "What the shadows remember" and "When the music hits you."
  • I was happy to share the virtual stage with talented poets today at the Cultivating Voices Live Poetry reading on November 17, 2024. I'm on from 01:25:40, but listen to the entire reading for some amazing work!

Let's Poet
I performed on Let's Poet with Stephanie Piper and Nuri Desvigne on November 23, 2024. I shared three pieces throughout the event, Untitled, My Love for BVI Culture, and Block. I encourage you to watch the 1.5-hour event because encouraging words were shared.

Feed the Holy
We Are the Harvest was highlighted and shared by Feed the Holy. I wrote and performed this piece for the 2024 Belle Vue Methodist Church Harvest.

Video: Anansi's Fancy
I wrote this poem to submit to a journal. Since I based this poem on a true story, I felt that Anansi was the perfect character to use.

Video: Granny Said A Lot
I performed this poem, Granny Said A Lot at the Cultural Food Fair Extravaganza, Book Fair, and Art Expo on November 29, 2024. I wanted to use some of the local adages that my grandmother and neighborhood elders would always say. What are some of the adages you heard from the seniors?

Newest Poem: I Am A Virgo
This poem was inspired by a Facebook poetry group. Shout out to Allie Poetry for the prompt!

I Am A Virgo
I am a Virgo
I dance like Michael
Groove like Beyonce
Act like Taraji
Rhyme like Ludacris
Sink the ball like Ibaka

I am a Virgo
Sometimes I don't let go
I know that the mission is to grow
I cherish the people I know
I speak with utmost flow
Virgo massive is where I stand
I stand strong when I take my stance
I love music and love to dance
Virgos are the best at romance

I am Virgo
Most compatible
Most adaptable
Comparable to none
