October Poetry Activities and Day 31 Haunted Poem

My October was poetically awesome! I wrote and shared poems with local, regional, and international audiences. This month has been the busiest for me as a writer and I enjoyed every moment.

Pulse Poetry Magazine
I shared two pieces in the October issue of Pulse Poetry Magazine, Cohesion and Honeybee. This issue was all about love and I hope my pieces embodied it! I'm so excited that Akin Chinnery and Toyer Fahie are also featured in this issue.

Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe Promptober
I participated in this daily challenge. Some pieces, words and videos, are shared on this blog. I had the most fun with Sweet.
Calling All Poets Series
I performed during the Calling All Poets Series First Friday reading on October 4, 2024. I shared Counting and natural. I'm on from 1:35:30 to 1:37:16.

Reading Filled Sunday, October 6, 2024
On October 6, 2024, I shared poems in three readings: Ooh Beehive, Poetry Global Network, and Cultivating Voices Live Poetry. You can see the Cultivating Voices Live Poetry reading here. I'm on from 34:56 to 37:22.

YouTube Uploads
I uploaded these poems:
One Hand
I played with our saying, "One hand can't clap." I think I went outside of this popular adage and expressed some hurt that I have been managing. This is what poetry is for - to share these concerns creatively!

sinking
I sang the first line of this poem, the first line of the chorus from "The Sinking Ship" by Gypsy. It was for Promptober Day 11.

Exhaust
I think I had more fun creating the video than writing the poem.

Telephone
This poem was written for Promptober Day 21 and for our local Heroes and Foreparents Day. I acknowledge my mother, grandfathers, and other family members in this piece.

Fountain
I felt more confident making this video because I had good practice with video editing.

Performances
I shared my performances at the Ivan Dawson Primary School and the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School for Reading is Fun Week 2024.

Cultivating Voice Live Poetry on October 20

I performed at this reading with some spectacular writers. I wanted to do something a little different so I shared When the shadows remember and When the music hits you. I'm on from 1:09:15 to 1:12:00.

Read Yuh Ting TOO Virtual Caribbean Poetry Contest
I participated in the Read Yuh Ting TOO Virtual Caribbean Poetry Contest on October 24, 2024. More details will be shared by the organizers soon.

Let's PO-ET
I participated in Let's Poet hosted by Nita Chase on October 26, 2024. We shared pieces about mental health, breast cancer awareness, and domestic violence. I'm on from 25:27 to 26:41 with broken fingers and from 1:04:15 to 1:06:41 with I Envision.

POEM: GRIT

Here's my Day 26 piece, 𝓖𝓡𝓘𝓣, as an acrostic poem. I wanted to evoke my thoughts by using colors. When you read this, what do you picture?

POEM: Cycle

Today's Promptober Word is Cycle. I could have gone in several directions but decided to write a tanka. These prompts from Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe have been inspirational. I appreciate this challenge on many levels.

Poem: Telephone

I wrote this poem based on the October 21, 2024 word prompt, telephone, from Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe. Today is also Heroes and Foreparents Day in the Virgin Islands and I thought it would be fitting to share this poem since I focused my thoughts on my foreparents.

POEM for World Food Day 2024: Overload

Today is World Food Day and I am sharing this poem based on a prompt.

Promptober Day 16: OVERLOAD
Prompt compliments of Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe

𝑂𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑑

We all have
A right to food for a better life
And a better future
We should be
increasing food production
investing in agriculture
While showing appreciation for nature
But some have
An overload of everything
They need and more
Instead of sharing
They prefer to be miserly
And enhance their stores
While others
Suffer from hunger and thirst
And with climate change
It only gets worst
We do need
Access to healthy food
Remember the
“Milk, it does your body good?”
Commercials of long ago
We need
Safely produced food
That will keep our bodies strong
We don’t need
Food filled with too much preservatives
To make it last far too long
An overload
Of chemicals and harmful ingredients
That wreck our immune system and
Throw our hormones out of whack
We need
An overload of healthy choices
And for this, we need to overload our voices
And bring action from the farm to the table
Because everyone is still more than able
And we are smart with technology
That we can devise new farming methodologies
That can coexist with climate change
Because if there is one right I can give
It would be for people to eat healthy and live
An overload of love

Poem: relief

Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe, thank you for today's prompt word, "relief." Life is a journey of ups and downs and I wanted my piece to show what happens when things are upside down and when you land on your feet.

Poem: One Hand by Linette Rabsatt

This piece is based on the Caribbean saying that "one hand can't clap." Let me know if I captured the essence of this proverb in this piece.
