The Crown

Every girl wants to wear a crown. However when Jesus wore his crown, he was beaten and then crucified. No girl or boy would want to replicate those momemnts when Jesus was beaten and then eventually killed. It was a sad day but things turned around just a few days later. He was risen from the dead and this shows how MIGHTY our GOD is. He is omnipotent and really has our back. Bless his mighty name!

POEM: Love Nature

be wise
and
open your eyes
to the world around you
because sometimes
the sky is blue
but other days it's
purple or grey too
sometimes the grass
is green
and other days
it's unseen
like a woodslave
behind a picture
he lives a life
that's often so richer
because he knows
his place
and keeps his life
in pace
and that's what we won't do
cause we always
look screwed
so oblivious to nature
and the wonders
beyond the sea shore
that we just are stuck
and feel we are
out of luck
when we have
so many blessings
so rather than
look like Scrooge
do something new
and enjoy the life you have
cause it's short
be like the animals
and stay in balance

Prayer for Thursday, April 26, 2012

Heavenly Father,

You have blessed us all with another day. Please protect us from evil and strengthen us in your ways. Help us to be strong, patient and kind and to our brothers' or sisters' needs, help us not to be blind. We are to often caught up in our own way and forget the path that we have trod. Furthermore, we forget the path that Jesus trod - healing the sick, preaching the good word; then yet to the cross to die. We thank you Lord for sending Jesus to save us. We are truly inspired by his sacrifice for us and pray for strength to walk that straight path. The joy at the end is you Lord.

AMEN

Rhyming is fun!

Do you have a hard time rhyming? It is not hard at all. However, if you have a particular accent, you can't make words try to rhyme when they really don't. Some words are harder to find a rhyming match so it is better to just repeat the word in another line. Like 'eclipse' could rhyme with 'crisp' or 'enrich' if the words are put to flow.

An example is:

I have no sense of time
but yet I mark this thing rhyme
Yesterday there was a eclipse
but my mind seems too crisp
I've made my own throne
but sometimes I don't feel grown
I act a like a fast turtle
but walk like I'm in a suffocating girdle
and sand is in my appendix
but still I'm eating Twix

I can go on and on but it's important to read more and use a thesaurus and dictionary to learn new words. Rhyming is fun!

Poem: My Mission

If you want to love me
it's fine
If you want to leave me
it's your time
cause I have much more
to follow
and you're just one that's
too shallow
I have a greater work
in store
and everyday my God's
giving me more
Love...is what my God
is about
and although you may not
understand
he is the one who truly
holds my hand
the one who replenishes
our strength
and Jesus is the one
who was sent
to die on the cross for
our sins
and with God in our life
we'll win
cause the devil can't keep
us down
not when my Jesus
is always around
so if you have got to go
then please go
cause I'm on a different mission
making better decisions
and moving on a positive vision

HOT SONG: Rock City - V.I State Of Mind

POEM: Giving Praises

Thank you Lord for a beautiful day
thank you Lord for inspiring words we can say
We are most grateful for the bountiful blessings
and the depths of your love are truly amazing
God's love is our greatest gift
he keeps us safe and our burdens he lifts
even as we traverse the rocky earth
he makes us know how much we're worth
Praise and blessings to the most high
on whose strength we can always rely
Heavenly father you are most holy
to you only we give all the glory

Quick Vegetarian Recipes

Quick Vegetarian Recipes

Two quick vegetarian recipes are Easy Tofu Fingers and Boiled Sweet Potato.  These two recipes are very simple to make and require few ingredients. The two can also be served together.

Easy Tofu Fingers
The Easy Tofu Fingers require one package of firm tofu, seasoning, oil for frying and Catalina, Thousand Island or Blue Cheese dressing. The total seasoning can be one to two tablespoons depending on the flavor sought but do not overdo it. Take the tofu and slice into fingers about the size of the pinkie finger.

Put the seasonings in a clean bowl that has a fitted cover. Then add the fingers, cover the bowl and shake so that the seasoning can cover all the fingers. Let the tofu sit for about fifteen minutes. Heat a frying pan and then add the vegetable oil or olive oil of choice. Add the tofu fingers and fry until golden brown on all sides.

Put the fried tofu on a napkin so that the excess oil can be drained. The tofu fingers can be served with a green salad, potato salad or with rice. The fingers can be dipped in the dressing or served with the dressing on top.

Boiled Sweet Potato
Firstly do not mix up the yams that are served as candied yeam with the actual potatoes that are naturally sweet. This recipe only requires the three or four medium sized sweet potatoes and water for boiling. The sweet potato can be cooked in the skin but for this recipe, wash and peel them.

Put the potatoes in a saucepan and cover with water. Boil until a fork can push through easily. Remove the potatoes from water and slice with a knife. The potato should be served warm and can be a great accompaniment to fish, other seafood or any meat.

Cooking vegetarian no longer has to be boring and simple recipes like Boiled Sweet Potato or Easy Tofu Fingers are tasty and quick to prepare.

My Caribbean Pride

Caribbean people have lots of things in common. We love good food and we believe in "spare the rod, spoil the child." We love to party and we come out in full force for our carnivals. We go to church even if the party just done - we going to church. We have lots of holidays and we truly love this. We take education and sports seriously.

These similarities are similar to most cultures within the world but I can only speak to what I can relate to. I love my Caribbean roots and am a proud United Virgin Islander - per Dara Monifah's catch phrase. I rep both sides of the VI and would not want to live anywhere else in the world.

That's another thing we Caribbean people have in common - we rep our flags with pride and dignity. Don't get me wrong, we are not perfect but we are who we are.

All I can beg of my Caribbean family is to keep heads high and rep the region with pride. We have lots of talent here and we need to all work together to build a good future for the youth.

Prayer for April 14, 2012

Dear God,

Thank you for the bountiful rain that blesses our cisterns, our gardens and our lives. We thank you for nature that abounds around us. We are truly blessed to experience such a great scenery in the British Virgin Islands with all the species of birds, lizards, fruits, vegetables and other flora and fauna. I pray Lord that I will be a good steward of the natural beauty around me and that I will teach my children and others in the community to do the same. Dear Lord, you put us to live in balance and to take care of the land and we ask that you forgive us for our wrongdoings of every kind and especially to Mother Nature. Dear God, we thank you and praise you. AMEN

Two Poems with One Click

Poem 1
I know not what my destiny is
and I know not about this thing called bliss
but I do know what I miss
and everyday I miss
your kiss
I do know that I love you
and while my words may seem untrue
Your image stays with me in all I do
your smile turns my grey skies blue

Poem 2
I do know what I wish
but I need you to teach me how to fish
not by throwing me in a ditch
or giving me a bucket list
but by seeing me through it all
cautioning me before I fall
giving me a boost when I call
and by making me reach to stand tall

Bickering Little Siblings

Why do siblings always have to bicker? My children drive me nuts with the constant fighting and tattling on each other. Sometimes I feel like screaming and many times I do. I wish they would just stop!

They are close in age and both are very competitive. The competitiveness is good but the little one always wants to outshine the other one. I am trying with them but they do get my blood boiling. My attempts to get them to play together hardly works unless I am there to chaperone.

I feel that they should be able to play independently without my constant eye over them. If you have any suggestions that you would like to share with me and the world, please leave a comment. I can use any suggestion that you give to keep peace in the house.

The Plight of Civil Servants

Working as a civil servant can be a thankless job with no upward mobility. You'll see other people get promotions and know that they do not deserve it. You'll see certain people get away with all kinds of bad deeds. Yet the bosses will expect you to still perform at your full potential. You'll see them plot for others and fire people for nonsensical reasons.

However, this is the case in private companies too. It's just that the civil service is bigger in my country than the private sector. The civil service always puts on a show that it is so great and in reality it's filled with problems.

As a civil servant, you have options though. You can leave. You can ask for a transfer. You can also just work in the situation and on your private time develop other interests or businesses to keep you challenged and stress free.

There will always be a need for employees in any civil service and you can never get away from nepotism. The great that I know about myself is that I can work anywhere so I'm never stuck. I always have options to reach for.

Do your best on your job and be thankful for what you have. Many are unemployed. I do my hours and get the work done to the best of my ability. After the 8-hour day is finished, my real time starts with taking care of my family and pursuing my other personal interests. I'll continue to do my best and remain thankful for what I have. It only makes me stronger and my resume better!

Disappointments

No one likes disappointments and I surely don't. I am looking at some great things at my fingertips and I can't touch them. It's quite frustrating! I'm am so excited sitting on the edge of my seat saying "Why! Why!"

Hopefully I'll be able to grab at that piece of paradise soon. I am really hoping that I will. Disappointments can also be a blessing and toay may not be my day but I know my hour will come.

I'd like to encourage everyone to enjoy life to fullest and have a Great Easter.

POEM: Bounce Back Mother Earth

Our beloved Mother Earth,
she is crying out
and for what it's worth
we should know what her pain is about

She is tired of our folly
and all the pollution we give her
she is no longer jolly
as the garbage stifles her laughter

We know we are making her too hot
with all that we have going on
she just wants us to stop
so she can be like when she was born

She's tired of our pillaging, overfishing and burning
as we rape the renewable resources
her anger is like an engine churning
and this brings us hard weather forces

Each man that stands on earth today
needs to do his part
because we can't keep treating Mother Earth this way
and today is when it needs to start

We have to see ways to reuse and recycle
and reduce the waste we make
it's the only way to ensure the water cycle
and help Mother Earth to remain awake

So do what you can today
to keep your environment in tact
if everyone helps in every little way
then Mother Earth can safely bounce back!

Chilling with the Kids

It's nice to chill at home with the kids. We did some baking yesterday, some gardening today. It will be errands tomorrow. Of course we'll play games, do work and watch TV too. It's nice to take a break from work even when the break is with the children. They can be demanding and sometimes don't listen, but they do make you laugh.

I love it when they occupy themselves and let me write in peace. I guess that's why I am so good at multitasking - I cook, write and still be a momma at the same time. There're nothing special about me doing that because most mothers do the same thing!

Enjoy your day today!
